Actually, I like the Beatles, but that may be because I grew up listening to my parents' music. My mother loved Motown; my father enjoyed (what is now) classic rock. He had several albums by the Beatles, so I became accustomed to their music. In fact, my little brother (14 y/o) was at one time obsessed with Yellow Submarine, both the song and the "movie".
Another factor is the stigma I have attached to the Monkees. I don't remember their music very well, I will admit, but I do remember their television show, which rubbed me all kinds of wrong. It felt like a colorized musical version of the Stooges. So whenever I do hear the Monkees, I automatically think about their sitcom attempt and shudder.
Oh, and I'm also very picky about what rap I can tolerate. A lot of it annoys me as well. I'm much more of a reggaeton and hip-hop fan.
Yeah, Davy was really the weakest link, music wise. He was the eye candy, while the others all had some musical ability. (Well, Davy was a song and dance man, but not a rock and roller) Still, Daydream Believer is one of the best known songs.
