Well, it's the week of TBRU, or as it's called around here, the Bear High Holy Days. Already a few people have started to come into town, and it will get busier throughout the week. I've already had to have a talk with people at work to tell them that I had something to do this weekend, and would be breaking the cardinal rule of tax season - work your ass off. It's sad enough that I can't get Friday off, but I'm certainly going to take the remainder of the time for me.

Of course we'll have a softball game on Sunday, the teams first, as we were rained out yesterday.

The last few days were actually somewhat relaxing with all of the rain making things like softball pretty much impossible. Yes, there was some flooding here in Dallas, but our house is up on a high part of town, so it never was an issue for us. I worried a bit about the commute, as the turnpike was built over one of the tributaries to the Trinity River. It was definitely above the flood plain, but not reaching the roadway.

Matty has been nice enough to introduce Chris and I to some really nice non-LJ guys. First there was Randy, who lives in the neighborhood. Then there is Howard, who's the partner of Mike, the Managing Editor of A Bear's Life Magazine, who's just moving into the area. Finally there's Bob from Detroit who's visiting for a long TBRU break. Really cool folks. Of course, now with Howard in the neighborhood, I guess we'll actually have to subscribe to the magazine!

Several of us watched Bound over the weekend - one of those "would it kill you to watch a lesbian movie?" choices that Alonzo ([livejournal.com profile] moroccomole) keeps talking about. It was really good, and now makes me want to go see V for Vendetta even more. Still, when do I have time to go see a movie?

The TV show that I'm now addicted to - after only two episodes, is Big Love. The polygamy aspect is one thing, and just seeing how it might work - or not work is interesting, but then they throw in the whole Branch Davidian aspect of the life that Bill thought he escaped. Harry Dean Stanton is really creepy as the prophet with his multiple wives and the new one, who's probably all of 14. Looks like I'll have to keep HBO for a while.

Right now, my knees are hurting again from a stint on the elliptical machine. So much for the low impact, I guess.

I really like Big Love.

The Harry Dean Stanton character reminds me of Evan Mecham, himself a mormon.

Also, I wonder if they're going to make out Ben, teenage son, to be gay. Just wondering.

Instead of going with one of the programmed up-and-down "hill climbing" programs on the elliptical trainer, I'd recommend that you just set it at a high incline and go. You'll up your calories and you may find that just going "uphill" will stress your knees than switching back and forth.

You might also want to try just the treadmill at a high incline. Set it to 15, start with a low speed, and then work your way up. Boring as heck, so bring an iPod or your music player of choice. I started shedding weight pretty fast once my trainer had me switch from the elliptical trainer to the treadmill at a high incline.

Have fun at TBRU!

I think we'll accept a few reruns. Lately you've been batting a thousand.

It's one of my favorites too. It's the only movie with a lesbian scene that I can honestly say I think is HOT.

Hmmm... Bob from Detroit? Wonder if it is the one I know from YEARS ago.

But yeah, St. Louis is the same way as HiBearNation hits. The bear world just STOPS.
