Finish Packing Dang IT!
Sep. 16th, 2004 06:05 pmJust about to head to Austin. I have a pickup to do at Bergstom Airport around 9:40. Scott will be somewhere about the city. Everyone else gets in later. Much later.
Before I run, here's a few things about my workplace to chronicle.
First, sadly, Screaming Amy is leaving. She got another job in the company and is moving on. I've known her since I started here, and we worked side-by-side for three years. She got a job in the Technical Writing group that I actually applied for. I think she just wanted it more, while my focus is still all about moving on. I guess I didn't really put my heart into the interview and test. Besides, I can't spell, really.
Having this job is expensive. There are breakfast duties, and occasional team lunches where you have to cook or buy something, but also lately there's been quite the number of pregnancies (this follows the large number of weddings a while back). For everyone of those with weddings or there's a shower, and people are expected to contribute.
I want gay marriage for the dang gifts, you know? I mean come on; can you really register for a domestic partnership? Well, maybe you can, but we don't even have that in Texas.
It's difficult to tell someone you haven't met who's in a totally different office that they are wrong for the fifth time, and they still haven't understood the new product.
Big Ed is cool, and frankly, hot, but he keeps trying to talk to me about Cher. Really, Cher. I don't hate Cher, but I don't worship her, or the late Sonny Bono, either. There are no Cher albums, or Cher MP3's in my home. Big Ed is a much better fag than I am.
We've had a lot of accuracy problems with new accounts, so we set up "buy-in" meetings for the associates to discuss this and to try to find some answers. So what was the answer? Follow procedures. Well DUH. Not a solution folks, that's a copout. Better training? More job aids? More quality checking? Those might be the answer.
Lastly, our company has just settled with the feds on some violations our sister company had before last years mergers. Everyone's on edge because the 2005 budget hasn't been written yet, and the settlement is more than 400 million dollars. Big money and it has to come from somewhere. If they want volunteers for layoffs, if the package is right, I'll probably go for it.
Sending resume after resume with few positive responses is getting a little tiring.
