I swear I'm leaving!

It's going to be blazing hot at this festival (95 degrees) with few clouds, and I hear underneath the kilt is hot.  I was planning to wear it "correctly", but maybe stuff some undies in the pocket if necessary, but that also scares me a bit - how many drunk/stoned fools in Austin will try to lift it?  Maybe I should wear the underwear.  Also, I don't have any boots. Everyone on the utilikilt site seems to have boots (which again would be very warm this weekend)  It seems wrong to wear sneakers with it.  Hmm.

Oh, yeah Kip also lent me a wrestling singlet - bit that's a purely behind-the-closed-door thing.  Don't expect to se me anywhere in Austin in that.  Maybe there will be pictures, if you're good.

Having worn a kilt for many years at the Minnesota Ren Faire (and two of those years were +90 degree days), my suggestion is to honestly go without the underwear. Generally speaking, even drunkards don't look under these things.

Of course, at one year at the Ren Faire, one of the staff people joking came up behind me and said, "are you wearing it in true Scottish style?" and lift up the kilt with his cane. He yelped, "OH GOD SORRY!" and ran back. I laughed and told him, "You takes your risks, you takes your chances! Its not my fault you went blind!!" But that only happened once and even though it was slightly embarassing it was mostly funny.

If you don't have boots, my suggestion is find some sandals, a cheap pair is fine if you don't have any. Looks almost as good and a heck of a lot cheaper. I never bought boots, I just wore my dark brown tiva sandals and it looked fine.

Because I gave you some advice re: the kilt... pictures? Wrestling singlet? Purdy purdy purdy please? With sugah on top? ;-)

I wear sandals with my kilts all the time. It's much cooler to wear it correctly. People will ask me how I'm wearing my kilt but rarely lift it to see.

Kilt problem easy to solve. Keep your pet spitting cobra under there -- nobody will lift the kilt twice!

Don't be slagging Austin. It's my second or third home. People in Austin are usually pretty cool, even the idiots are cooler somehow. (That takes explaining.)
