The Scissor Sisters played Dallas tonight and it was one of the most energy-filled concerts I've ever been to. The crowd was mixed, some really into it and dancing, others hanging back. The venue was crowded, but not packed. Ana Matronic said it was the most people they have played for outside of New York City...I'll take it with a grain of salt, but that's what she said.

I thoroughly enjoyed the show. Jake and Ana are very theatrical, while the working heart of the band lies low. Still, I was amazed by the guitar solos - something you rarely hear in rock today - maybe because the emo-kids don't really know how to play. They played all of the hits, and a few other songs - and I knew them all. Let's hear it for the extended version of Filthy/Gorgeous!

I love their music, not that it's anything new, but it's just a good smash up of styles from the sixties, seventies and eighties along with an ironic twist that comes from the band's personalities. You can easily see where the B-52's, Elton John, David Bowie and the New York Dolls all play a part in their music with a little disco thrown in.

We saw some people we knew, but never did find John, Brendan, Mike and David. Sad because I really wanted to see John's fabulous outfit. Still, fewer drag queens and club kids than was expected. Lot's of bears. Lot's of dancing.

Loved the opening act, Wigs on Sticks.

I had the pleasure of seeing them when they were here in Atlanta last October. I had never been to a concert before, hehe. They are awesome.

That would be an interesting first concert to see. Trust me, you're not going to find many groups that audience-focused.

The Scissor Sisters put on a great show. I saw then when they were in Boston and it was a great time.

Yes. lots of energy, lots of getting the audience into what they were doing. Good stuff. I feel lucky that we don't have to see them in a large stadium like in Europe.

I wish I had seen them on the first tour. Chris said that he saw them at a little place with an audience of about 150. that was before I moved to Dallas. Obviously the word is out...to an extent. The crowd was pretty much filled with gays and their hags. Still, I think I saw Bea Arthur out there.

Chris said that the energy was a bit higher with the larger crowd, but there wasn't as much banter as there was talking to a small crowd - oh, and they have more songs!

I was really impressed by the guitar work by all of the fellows. I think people would dismiss them as a gay garage band act, but these guys really have their chops.

In a recent interview, BabyDaddy said, and I quote, that the band did not give two shits about America because the can't move any albums here. They have sold millions in Europe but only 160,000 in the States. So, they just do short tours in the markets where they know they will sell and don't explore other U.S. cities.

And there you have it.

Well, when in Dallas you only sell 2,000 tickets, that's not a big crowd. I'm not sure how they decided on where to play, but when you're trying to pare down your stadium tour of Europe and Austrailia for a few folks in American cities, there probably isn't much interest in hitting the smaller cities.

Las Vegas is strange because the population is transient. Sure, the city is growing with more permanent residents, but I'm sure most artists try to consider the travelling audience and if they would come to a tour concert vs. all of the rest of the regular shows on the strip. This is why LV doesn't have a majopr sports franchise. Who would by season tickets?

Wow sounds like such fun and great show!

I saw them when they launched their tour here in LA. It was a terrible venue. The sound was TERRIBLE. I couldn't see a thing and I was up front (too many taller people ahead of me) and I'm 5'9"! It was like watching a college band play in an auditorium. Plus they weren't that familiar with the new material yet. I'm hoping they come back to LA.

The sound was a bit muddy where we saw them as well. I would have liked the vocals to be a bit clearer. Luckily I knew most of the words!

I liked seeing them in that environment, actually. It was like seeing a smaller band play, and the prople crowding around just encouraged a lot of people to dance and kept the energy up. Even the small auditorium shows seem a lot more sterile.

Yeah, those are good. Much closer and clearer than my photos. Then again, you and Jeff have a lot of experince getting good photos and recordings of shows!

They really try to get the audience involved. It's very good stuff, and they work to keep the energy up.

The Scissor Sisters were AMAZING!!

But if you didn't make it to the afterparty at Minc you really missed out. Lets just say it was *special* in a really fun way.

Seeing *all* of Amanda Lapore was highly unusual and very entertaining. Then again I don't expect to the post operative tranie performers *NAKED* in Dallas. So it was quite a party.

Also, I got to talk to BabyDaddy (Scott) for about 10 minutes, he is really great. I chatted with Ana Matronic for 15 minutes, she is funny and really sweet. I am so glad I went to the afterparty. It was worth the 15 bucks.

You can read about it on my blog and on the livejournal of JediKnightCub.
