On tonight's ER Jerry, played by the Uber-Woofy Abraham Benrubi is IM'ing and get some news about Dr. Carter that he follows by congratulating Carter on his promotion.

Carter, trying to figure out where Jerry got his information looks over his shoulder and sees a name of "CoreyB123" that he's IM'ing with. Then he proceeds to read aloud Jerry's IM ID -

I can't recall the show ever giving Jerry enough to do to make it known one way or another.

He's played gay characters in two series that I know of, but I didn't think he was actually gay.

Here is some more info about him though:
Full name: Abraham Rubin Hercules Benrubi
Is an avid comic book collector.
Has a father who is a successful disc jockey and musician in St. Louis, Missouri.
His father is best known as "Smash" to the St. Louis radio & television audiences.
Plays City of Heroes and is an avid gamer.
Stared with other hottie Ethan Suplee in "Without a Paddle"
To stay with the hottie connection: He also found work making guest appearances on episodic series including "Wings", as the gay son of Roy (David Schramm) and a young Dan Connor in a Halloween flashback on "Roseanne".

Someone should track down if he really is gay....not that it makes a difference.

Oh fuckitall, "Bears" are too mainstream now. I'll need to go find another downtrodden subculture to call my own (until it becomes the Next Big Thing and I have to abandon it as well...)

Oh now, that's just silly! "BEAR" is HAWT! CARP is CRAP spelled sideways...

You are SO banned from the carp movement. I'd send out a memo if I had any other members.

You can't kick me out, I QUIT!

I remember the early days of the Carp movement, when it consisted of me and my buddies throwing back some brewskis at the old "Lone Starfish" (the original one that got knocked down in the earthquake back in '88 or '89).

We didn't have a name back then; we didn't know we were Carps; we were just a little clique of scaly guys cheating on our husfishes with each other. Only later did we differentiate as Carps, Fry, Guppies, Fingerlings, Tuna, Trout, Salmon, Sharks, Groupers... It's all gotten so complicated!

Then what's his name started "Carp" magazine, and took pictures of every one of us for those early half-size 'zines (long before anyone ever dreamed it would become a marketing juggernaut.) I was on the cover of Issue #3. I think they sold a total of 44 copies of that issue. I still have 25 of the ones I bought in a box in my attic. One of these days I'll pay for my retirement by selling them on eBay!

But I digress.

Back then we didn't care about "Carp Codes." Nobody worried about how big his ventral fin was! And the concept of a "Musclecarp" would've been laughed out of the bar. Nowadays it's all about reducing yourself to a cryptic set of codes, spending hours and hours in "Goldfish's Gym" to bulk up enough to add an extra "+" to your "M" code!

It's all about cutting your scales just the right way, using the right flipper shampoo, identifying yourself as a Carp, or a Guppy, or whatever the latest term is. The Carp Movement's now just a marketing niche.

The Spirit of the Carp has been turned into a merchandizing category, and I renounce my Carpness. The rest of you can go straight to Davy Jones' Locker!

Oh, but I'm still running for International Mr. Carp at ICR next year! See ya then! I'll have plastic cups and little footballs and fortune cookies and ball caps imprinted with my logo for everyone!

Fishy flipperhugs,

Charlie Tuna

I personally have had two encounters with Abe... once back when he was on "Parker Lewis" he sat a few seats away from me at a Revolving Sushi Bar.... I remember as I was leaving I found a $100 on the floor near him but I ended up keeping it....

A few years later I was heading into the Virgin Megastore and he was coming out of Virgin with a bag of stuff...I just froze and he looked at me....

So a friend of mine who used to drive cabs claims he used to drive young little twinks into Abe's house in Encino.... who knows... *shrugs*

I've heard stories like that (I run his website) but it's all circumstantial. I think (best I can nail down) is that he's gay "friendly". He knows for sure that he has a following and he's fine with it...but as far as what side of the fence he's on???? It's anyone's guess. I haven't seen (or heard) any conclusive evidence either way.

I did like how he was featured very much during the episode....love the grey hair and that bald spot ;)

Although in my fantasies he would be gay... but I think it rocks he collects comics books - I know the store he apparantly shops at but I haven't seen him there yet... I feel dorky for not saying hello the two times I've seen him but I seem to freeze up whenever I see someone in Entertainment - EVEN when I go to Comicon and I stand in line for hours to meet a celebrity.... *blushes*

I'm always happy to promote the website when I mention Abe. It was certainly one of the most Jerry intensive episodes in recent memory. The only ones that really said much about his life were the ones where he was trying to win the lottery, one where he mentioned taking college courses, and where he actually played softball with the other characters and was seen outside the ER for once.
