Fixing another ACL

At first I wasn't sure about going to Austin City Limits Festival again this year. It wasn't like Chris and I didn't enjoy it last year. Great bands, a great group of friends to be with, and all. Pictures from last year are still hanging out here and here. There was a huge crowd and it was hotter than hell, so i was kinda - well, I guess I was just thinking of other trips and priorities, and not about ACL. That and we missed the cheap ticket sale that some of the cool kids managed to get.
Well then they go and list the bands that are coming this year and I suddenly find I can't resist. Out of the 100+ bands (as you look down the list they get more and more obscure, I already have some idea who about twenty-five are, so I'm going to label myself as "almost hip". Really, that's not too bad, and there's lots to look forward to there.
What I'm loving about this year's lineup is the number of British bands coming in that are bringing back the new wave sound from the 80's. The Bravery, The Arcade Fire, Keane, Doves, The Futureheads. Bring them on. Add in Spoon, Bloc Party, Death Cab for Cutie, Aqualung, Tegan & Sara, Rilo Kiley - it's a party. Lord knows all of these bands will be playing all at the same time. It seems like we always had to make choices last year between bands.
So I've been listening a lot to the college channel, Left of Center, on Sirius, and they love this stuff, so it makes me feel like I'm keeping up. Sure, you can chuck everything that's on the top 10 (except for Coldplay, who will also be there, and I'm also looking forward too), I've been over rap and hip-hop since day one. Give me some good rock with a little Lyle Lovett mixed in and let's have a good time.
I ended up making a CD mix of the artists I have in my iTunes who will be playing this years fest that I may have to share with other bears who will be in attendance. I'll have to find out who's all going!
In other news, I'm getting dressed up today. The shiney suit is going on again. I'll let you know why later.
