Houston, On The Lawless Texas Frontier
Apr. 10th, 2005 11:51 pmI was already considering being out of town next weekend (I couldn't this weekend due to the approach of the dreaded April 15th), but now it's become imperative.
Houston, depending on your point of view on the issue, will either be the most secure, or most dangerous city in the US next week as the National Rifle Association (NRA) is having it's annual convention here. One of my favorite members of Congress, Tom DeLay will be their keynote speaker.
I tend to stay out of the gun politics debate due to my father, who has a secondary job as a gun repairman and an occasional instructor for the sheriff's office. He will be attending a potion of the convention as a proud NRA member.
I think Charlton Heston is out of commission. It looks like the only star power set for the show is Ted Nugent. He'll probably play well with the ladies luncheon crowd, too. Otherwise, the morning prayer breakfast - since guns and atheism probably shouldn't mix, is for ticketholders, only.
