Astro-nomical!
Oct. 3rd, 2004 04:43 pmGiven that the club was several games under .500 and in 5th place at the All-Star break, I'm thrilled that the Houston Astros have come in today and won the National League Wild Card and will continue into the post season.
It shows that this team is talented, but it's the change in manager, getting former Astro Phil "Scrap Iron" Garner (with his hot moustache) that really made the difference.
Unfortunately we have to go play our arch-nemesis, the Atlanta Braves, in the first round. Past history is not good here, as we've lost several first rounds to these guys. Still, we do have Roger Clements going for us in the first game. perhaps he'll play my old favorite, Mike Hampton.
Hopefully they will do their best. I know that I counted this team out a while back, and they have surprised me so far, peaking at the right time. Can this finally be the team to go past the first round of the playoffs? something we've never done before? Who knows.
It was a good day for Houston sports all around as the expansion Houston Texans football team finally won two games in a row...now in their third year. Quarterback David Carr promised last year that he wouldn't cut his hair until they won two, and now he can finally cut his mane.
