Seeking Dog: Must Be Into Watersports
Aug. 31st, 2004 08:30 amA couple of more things about the weekend past...before it gets lost in the fog of my mind. (told in no order whatsoever)
Joey is a very energetic dog. I have to admit, I've only been around small dogs, so Joey's play is a little more aggressive than I am used to. I watched Alex (
darke) and Jay (
jaybear) wrestle with Joey, and how much she enjoyed it. I guess I've been being to sweet with here, not physical enough. You can't tire this little girl out!
Joey is starting to develop little routines. one is a strange thing where she will wait to go to the bathroom, not in the side yard, but out front, after being let out. If she's thrown out of this routine, things occur. More than a week ago, we were at home at feeding time, and she managed to see Dan (
musicbearmn) before she could be lead out the front door, and she jumped up and down, exploring a little watersports action. Dan had the scent on him, and was later humped by another, very excited pooch.
This past weekend, Alex was asleep on the couch, and Chris wanted to take Joey out . Joey started for the door, but noticed alex sleeping, and turned for the couch, leaping towards his head. While Alex sleepily tussled with the dog, the excited pup let go on the couch. oddly enough, during the storm the night before, the roof leaked a bit onto the couch, and Alex's head. Apparently, Alex can't keep from getting wet on the couch.
In picking up a birthday present for Chris, Alex and Jay decided that a small steam cleaner would be the perfect gift.
Conversation was good. There was a great Political discussion amongst several of us that started with Jay and I, then spilled over to Davo (
davomatic) who explained some about Canadian politics, and Matty (
mattycub). Since we were at a restaurant right next to the Baptidome, there were several of the faithful at the restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. I could tell that some in the next booth were a little worried about 8 hairy men sitting a little close talking about politics and laughing about using lots of Heinz ketchup.
The other talking point for the weekend was Weight Watchers. Annie (
slothra) who I hadn't seen in a year looked good, as did Alex and Jay, who have definitely lost weight since I saw them in Austin in April. I'm impressed with the results, but it seems that you really have to have self-discipline. I'm sure it becomes easier when you see results.
I could see that Alex and Jay were having some trouble finding things at the restaurants we were going to. It takes a lot of self discipline, especially when I'm having a burger and fries, or fettucini alfredo right next to you.
So WW works (I remember it worked for Paul and Bob too. I still hesitate because "diet" makes me think about someone telling you you must eat a lot of fruits and vegetables - and you know that isn't going to fly with me. I'll have to look into it. I'd rather not get to involved before I learn more- I don't want to waste money on something I'm not going to like.
Saturday Night's Trivia Pursuit game was interesting. Alex is not a trivia guy, and Chris was too sleepy to help, so our team didn't do so well. What was funny was a certain, unnamed Dallas-area comic book store owner (
dedagda) who got a little tipsy on his 40 oz. brew (he's so ghetto), and was shouting so much you couldn't hear the question as it was read. I heard later that he was flinging cake around. unfortunately I didn't get a kiss from him. he's a big kisser when he's tipsy. I hope that Chris (
amboy00) drove him home.
It was nice that Matty and Annie ran out to get a cake and balloons under cover of a booze run (they got booze, too). I think I still need to pay Matty for some of that cake. that plus the ice cream at the restaurant and all did well to make Chris and Kenny's birthdays special. It was a good time. On Sunday I finally got a chance to run off and get Chris a gift, a Simpsons videogame. Since I gave him a videogame for last Christmas, I think this next Christmas i'll have to be more creative. That's going to be tough.
As I got to bed Sunday night, I experienced the odd air-capture that my CPAP machine has, holding on to just a little of the air, and the scent of the place you once were. I've written about the effect before. It's kind of like receiving a postcard reminder of the time you spent away, an aromatic hug, if you will. Chris will be glad it didn't smell like puppy.
