When was that?
Jan. 12th, 2003 12:13 amYes, I'm a stupid follower and I will slavishly fill out the now popular survey...BUT, I'm going to add an extra that they seemed to have left off...perhaps they don't believe?
When John F. Kennedy was shot (11/22/1963)
Too young for that. My parent's were married that December. I followed a few years later.
*When man first landed on the Moon (6/20/1969)*
I can't believe they left this one off. I have been told that I "watched" it on TV. There's pictures of me with my 2nd birthday cake about a month later and there was a big toy rocket on it.
When Mt. St. Helens blew (5/18/1980)
Jr.High school. I remember seeing the footage of all of the downed trees near the mountain.
When the space shuttle Challenger exploded (1/28/1986)
I hate to admit that I was a freshman in college, heading to a theater class. Classes were cancelled and I went back to the dorms to watch coverage. I always loved the space program - especially living in Houston - very upsetting at the time.
When the 7.1 earthquake hit San Francisco (10/7/1989)
I was watching the world series coverage. Interesting to hear the sportscasters covering the story until the network anchors could come in.
When the Berlin Wall fell (11/7/1989)
Watching CNN. I think I was more concerned with the Houston-Texas game the next weekend. (We won, 47-9)
When the Gulf War began (1/16/1991)
Since it was inevitable, I was more worried if they would try to draft me and my friends. Still in college, though.
When OJ Simpson was chased in his White Bronco (6/17/1994)
LOL, I was pissed! We were watching the Rockets championship series and they broke in with the stupid white bronco. After a couple of minutes, the game returned and OJ was reduced to PIP by the station showing the game.
When the building in Oklahoma City was bombed (4/19/1995)
I was in Norman Oklahoma when it happened, visiting some frat brothers at OU. We went to the site, but there was nothing we could do. They had 24 hour coverage all weekend long after that. We had a donation run at OU, and I put in money for UH that we collected later.
When Princess Di was killed (8/31/1997)
It was on CNN. Sad, moved on.
When Bush was first announced President (11/7/2000)
I was already convinced it would happen. I guess I was at work. No big deal.
Removing the WA earthquake question. Question: Where were you during Tropical Storm Allison (2001) that flooded Houston?
When terrorists knocked over the World Trade Center (9/11/2001)
I was driving into work on my old, long commute. I listened on the radio as they said a plane hit tower one. I thought of a cessna. Then they were interviewing someone in a near-by building when he described the plane hitting tower two. I had to get things square at work - and all the internet sites were down. I was getting news from my friend Rex Oates who's news director for the Buzz here in town. We left work as soon as possible (I work in a 30 story building that has a twin right next to it) and we were ready to go. I didn't actually see footage till I got home, after the towers had fallen. i had to imagine it all in my mind - the power of radio.
