Historical Artifacts
Jan. 13th, 2003 08:47 amFirst, a little housekeeping. Several people have dropped by since new year began and I wanted to say "Hi!" they are:
ilorsodirettore (hey Tony!),
polomex,
iberianbear,
clovisbear,
garebear (who's made some really long and well-thought out comments!),
clintswan, and
scottbear2000.
Hi!
Otherwise, yesterday I went out and had brunch with Bruce, aka,
houstongwm. We had a nice time, and we talked, he doing the majority of it. Then he took me to the small space that houses the Gulf Coast GLBT Archives. Really, It's not much right now, since the movement to actually take in the history of the community here on the Gulf Coast is still in its infancy. Still, there's posters and artwork and awards, most of it from the last 20 years or so.
It was interesting, in a detached way. I really don't know that much about the community, and while I understand that its good to learn from the past, I just don't have any knowledge of it. There were names and faces of those who have gone before, and a couple of references hit, Mainly because I had listend to the After-Hours show. After Hours is a gay community show that comes on Saturdays after 1:00am. It's education for some of us.
Bruce has some interesting stories to tell, and I was just soking them in, pretty much since I didn't have much to give back. Still, I'm learning.
