Pass This Over
Mar. 15th, 2005 08:03 amMy mother on Sunday announced that the Oscars happened so early this year because the Jews control Hollywood and they didn't want it to interfere with Passover.
As I let that bit of madness sink in, and I wonder just where she got that bit of information from, I had to remind her that while yes, the Academy Awards used to happen in March, but now, and for the last three years, they occur in February, and this is so ABC can put them in their Ratings period. If any people of any ethnic persuasion are winning from the move to an earlier time, it's the TV executive.
I remember a few years ago the Academy admitted they could do the voting earlier, and DVDs could allow the voters to screen the movies at home, meaning that the voters wouldn't have to go out to little theaters to see these films before they disappeared off the face of the earth. There would often be special screenings. Things had changed, and they could move up the telecast, and ABC could profit from it.
This also shows that I know way too much about this process.
Still, this really worries me about the crap my mom is listening to. For one thing, Passover this year isn't in March, it's in April, way after Easter this year. So my mom is getting fed that "Jews run Hollywood" junk again. There must be some lingering junk coming out of the radio as the new less-violent Passion of the Christ is being re-released for the Easter holiday. Don't forget to take the kids! I heard the digitally added in the Little Drummer Boy for them to identify with. And Donkey from Shrek.
As Ana Marie Cox from Wonkette says, "The Jews run Hollywood, the Gays run Washington."
So I asked my mother, not expecting that she'd know, will they be showing Charelton Heston and the Ten Commandments for Easter this year? Personally, they could wait and show it for Passover instead. I'd rather see Desperate Housewives. Maybe Moses can go off to basic cable this year. TNT knows drama, right?

Date: 2005-03-15 02:30 pm (UTC)As for the Academy, it looks like this year's ceremony being in February was a fluke, but next year I'm told they are planning to have it early in March rather than return it to the traditional last-weekend-in-March date. Perhaps someone booked the Kodak Theater on their preferred date this year.

Yes, blame the TV executives...and the IOC!!!
