Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] standardtom!

So I went and splurged and got the little sportster for Sirius radio installed in my car tonight. I have to go finish the installation in a couple of minutes by activating the thing. It took me a while to get the thing installed. I had to suffer watching tonight's American Idol while I was waiting, and actually got in a mild argument with the Tweeter guy about the show's choosing good looking people over those with talent, as I argued that they were looking more for those they could market a CD to a 16 year-old after the show is over. I think the success of Clay Aiken over winner Ruben will direct them in the future.

Otherwise, getting the receiver unit ran me $200. Not bad. While I was in the store for the couple of hours waiting for installation, I was getting used to the different channels. Certainly a lot more than Houston offers over the air. I think I'll be happy. The only problem was mounting the unit (*giggle*) since there wasn't a real good place. So I actually have to use a little remote control to change the station, but I'll be able to listen to Larry ([livejournal.com profile] lfkbear)in my car tomorrow morning going to work.

In other news, I looked at the Oscar nominations today and noticed that most of the movies I hadn't seen. I did enjoy Finding Neverland so I guess I'll root for that. I was sorry to see that The Incredibles didn't get a best picture nod, but I know hollywood looks down on animation, even though that movie had it all.

Of course, if you want to follow more about the oscars, may I suggest you follow the blog of my friend Gene, the Oscar Whore. Besides running a special pool, he also does a pretty good job of speculation and coverage.

He was my first fraternity big brother, and the first person I came out to in college. I don't hear from him too much these days, but he's still a pretty good guy, now off in Bloomington MN. Just don't let him know that you know he's from Houston!

Yo Egg! Its Gene from the Frozen Tundra otherwise known as Minneapolis, MN! Thanks for the shout-out on your LJ! Purusing your site, I see lots of bear-type handles, and I'm always excited to have more furriness at the site.

I didn't know you know Larry, btw. He was one of the frist guys I met when I moved to NYC and was a very dear friend while I was there. :)

Hope all is well with you! Tell sis I said Howdy!

Gene

Wow, they'll let anyone in here!

How are you? Hope everything's doing well. Didn't know that you'd spot the shout out here.

There's a lot of bears on LJ, including Larry, and I met him through this forum, and met him in person when he came down for TBRU in 2003 and stayed over at my friend Matty's house. He's a great guy.

Laura lives in Baltimore now, and I'll be sure to tell her hello. Keep in touch!

Yep! I signed up for LJ when I was developing this year's website, but Kelly wound up writing a Blog application so I could host it on my own domain so I've bearly used my page here. The log in comes in handy though. :)

One of my former Winterguard girls (Michelle from Ovetion '92) is doing her residency @ Johns Hopkins in B'more now and she says she loves it there. She says the entire city has a sort of comedy to it. I don't have a lot of experience with the city, once I went to a mass meeting of East Cost bear clubs to see FANTASIA 2000 at the IMAX there and the other time we stopped on the way to DC to get drunk at some place that serves margaritas in hubcaps. I don't remember the name, but its DEFINATELY a place to go if you go visit sis.

Mom says hi, btw.
