I'm ashamed I'm posting another meme after putting one out yesterday, but here we go, here's my glasses.

World through my eye

Yep, they are dirty, and my right eye is much less out of whack than the left one.

So to try to combat this memage (memeage?), here's some actual content.

I've had one week of training at the new job (the previous week was licensing training). There's much to lear, and really, this company acts very differently with a different focus and products than I've had at my other two financial services companies. There's 40 people in my training class and there's many different levels of industry experience. It's making some of the going very slow. Personally, I'd like more training on the unique products and wish the computer systems classes went much faster. I usually don't have trouble working trough database lookup queries.

Having an hour lunch again is somewhat mystifying, but since there's no campus cafeteria, it's all about learning how far you can drive and still make it back in time.

The lead trainer, Jake is attractive, but straight. Not that I'm looking to cause trouble at work or anything. I think he looks like Versacub from Seattle. I wish I could remember his real name right now. I get to see Jake for 3 more months. It's a long training program, but Jake might keep my attention.

I'm having to work on re-configuring my finances a little bit as I had been on a weekly pay schedule that ended last week. The new employer is like many professional employers and pays on the 15th and end of the month. I'm not sure how much I'll get on the 29th for my first new payday, so I may have to keep it a little frugal this week.

I don't have the benefit of going down to the gym at work before I leave the campus anymore. The new office building doesn't have too many amenities on the property. I find one bathroom for each of the three floors is a bit of bad planning. The training room is freezing while the floor is warm. I finally have a cubicle with higher walls, and for some reason it comes with a small coat closet attached to the drawers.

Still, about the gym, I digress, I'm lucky to have already transitioned to the LA Fitness near our home. Still, I'm feeling that I have to push myself to go. Tonight I did work out, but since Chris went earlier, I could take all the time I wanted. I went over to the hot tub and just floated for a while. It's so big, not only could I float, I also was pushed around in circles by the power of the jets. Relaxing, but a bit dizzying.

I don't have to work on Saturday! Hooray!

Set Phasers to Random

✔As the trivia lovin' guy I am, I am watching VH1's World Series of Pop Culture. One of these days I need to get a team going and try out. Still, I'm watching the episodes a few days late, and the commercials give away which teams have won. Grr.

✔The first cars I drove were my parents. There was my mom's crap-brown Buick Century station wagon which I drove my friends to prom in, and my dad's at one time light metallic blue Buick Skylark. I say one time because the blue paint came off in the first year - all on it's own..We called it the Rustmobile. For much of it's life the Rustmobile was covered with grey primer. It was never painted again.

I hoped my dad would buy me a car, but that didn't happen until my second year of college. I remember finding a well-kept Fiat that I was hoping to convince my dad I needed when I was a high-school junior. MY dad took it for a spin before telling me unless I could come up with the $5,000.00 and insurance, I wasn't getting a convertible.

I've still wanted a convertible ever since.

✔I saw a story today about taking your dog to work day. I'd love to do that. I think Joey would enjoy running around the ranch.

✔I see there's a meme going around for people to name the song that was number one on the day you were born. Mine's The Doors Light My Fire. Not sure what that says about me.

✔I'm on the elliptical machine tonight and the guy who must watch Fox News while working out comes in, and changes one of the TV's to Fox to watch the O'Reiley Factor. He actually yells at people if they try to change the channel. I was happily reading a sex scene in Michael Tolliver Lives tonight, listening to an NPR podcast hoping he'd see the word "cocksucker" or something. If he did, he said nothing. He knows I don't like O'Reiley because I laugh at the "serious" issues as I read them on the closed captioning.

Tonight they were covering an explosion in New York City, and although they kept posting that it was not terror related, they kept covering it and talking about what a terrorist attack would be like if this was one. It seemed like an unimportant story, but they kept trying to play it up and play the scare tactics.

Of course, there's the reports that our administration's actions in Iraq have made the Al-Queda organization stronger. Scare tactic or sad reality?

✔Lastly, So I don't win the training job, and what am I doing at my team meeting tomorrow? I'm training the team on a new rollout of the imaging and workflow program. The new person still hasn't been announced, and we couldn't wait on the rollout. At least my boss thinks I can do this and is willing to give me some opportunities.

Thankfully I seem to be a little smaller than Comic Book Guy.

Over the last month or so I've been walking up the stairs at work. This is a big change for the usually elevator taking guy. I work on the third floor, but our floors are all overly tall, with ducts and wires in a raised flooring, then ceilings that allow our indirect lighting system to bounce off of them.

I'm also using the stairs in the parking garage. I usually have to park on the fourth floor, and that seems to be about the same amount of steps as the office building. It's around 50 steps.

Needless to say, when I get up to the top, I'm winded, and usually sweaty. It's getting better, now I'm not panting all the way to my desk (about a football field down the way, it's a large building), but at least to the coffee and water bar.

With the greater emphasis on exercise I've put in for the last year and a half, I would have thought I'd have a little more stamina. I can do 45 minutes on the elliptical trainer with ease, and I've gone from 60 pounds to doing flys and rows with 120 pounds. Still, stairs kill me.

I need to get some variety into my workout. I use the same couple of machines everyday, working on my back and my chest. Lord knows I'd love to have a huge, powerlifter type chest, but I think I'm going to need to figure out some other exercises to actually get some results on that.

I've stalled out on losing weight for some time. I would like to hope it would kick in again, but I don't really know. The gym's scale isn't very accurate, and seems to be wildly different from one weigh-in to the next - like 40 pounds different.

I'm sort of obsessed about working out, since my normal days are monday, Wednesday and Friday, and I didn't drive out to the gym yesterday, I went today after work. I may go on saturday, just to get my three days in. I'm proud of myself for making the commitment for as long as I have. In most things I would have given up months ago.

Now if I was closer to looking like a linebacker than Comic Book Guy, that would be really great...one step at a time.
