Oppression can be quite subtle. Does any gay person not have sex because it's illegal? Of course not. But a law stating that what you do, the very basis for your expression of love for another subtly erodes your self-esteem. The tearing down of this archaic law can only be a good thing.
Now if I could only somehow justify buying $129 knives as part of the movement....
