Wide Blue Yonder

I've been keeping my thoughts about the upcoming war to myself. It seems a bit unimportant what I think, and I've stayed a bit blissfully away from news reports and such. So unlike the normal news-junky that I've been in the past.
My thoughts actually turn to Dane Leach, another Fraternity Brother, who's somewhere out there, deployed with a transport group of C-130's. We swap emails now and again, and for the last 7 years he tells me what part of the world the Air Force has sent him off too. About a week ago he said that he was getting ready for deployment, leaving his wife and two kinds at the base in Abilene.
Being a mechanic in the Air Force means that he's likely to stay safe, but still I have to hand it to the men and women who've signed up for this duty. Right or wrong, they're going into harms way for us.
Dane wants out. Has been for about a year now, and can't do it. He's been all over the world, seeing more of it than he has his family. After this...hopefully.

Generals and Majors ah ah
they're never too far
from battlefields so glorious
out in a world of their own
They'll never come down
till once again victorious
Generals and Majors always
seem so unhappy 'less they got a war
Generals and Majors ah ah
like never before are tired of being actionless.
Calling
Generals and Majors everywhere
Calling
your World War III is drawing near
Generals and Majors ah ah
They're never too far
away from men who made the grade
out in a world of their own
They'll never come down
until the battle's lost or made
Generals and Majors ah ah
like never before, are tired of being in the shade.

Date: 2003-03-20 07:22 am (UTC)I know. I'm hoping for a quick resolution to this mess.
Howdy Michael!
Date: 2003-03-19 07:39 am (UTC)I have two young men that I've worked with who are going into the fray. Both of them struggled very hard to come up from the origins life dealt them and saw the armed forces as means to serve their country and better their lives. I'm praying for them every night now and all their brothers and sisters in uniform.
Let me also compliment you on your choice of music! That song has been running through my head for weeks now. Seems like there's dozens of times in my life that are soundtracked by Andy and the boys!
Let's hope this insanity ends soon.
Hey there Kevin!
Date: 2003-03-20 07:20 am (UTC)XTC is a favorite. I met them at a store signing in 1989 or so. No one knew who they were, so I spent about 3 hours talking to Andy Partridge. A very cool guy. A very good band.
