It's 71 degrees and the coolest it's been in a couple of weeks. Ahh Texas summers.

Here's a few upcoming things that aren't, thankfully, work related.

★Chris and I will be attending the True Colors Tour on Sunday the 22nd at the rechristened Starplex (or Smirnoff, if you know that name). It's now the Superpages.Com Amphitheater. Apparently naming rights are feeling the economic downturn as well.

We didn't attend last year's show, but seeing the B-52's and having $10 tickets (with an $8 convenience charge, thanks ticketmaster) made it more attractive this year.

★In September we'll be going back to the Austin City Limits Festival. It's a really good lineup this year, and it's two weeks later than in the past, so hopefully it won't be 108 degrees like it's been in the past. they actually have the schedule out - early this year, so now I know when I'll see Nakia ([livejournal.com profile] atxchubbylimits) with his full band.

I hope some other guys will come down to Austin as well. It's always fun to enjoy the event with friends. If you're thinking about coming now is the time to get tickets and plane fare!

★Lastly, I'll be going to New York City for the first time towards the end of July. in my quest to see the major league ballparks I have to see Yankee and Shea stadiums before they are torn down at the end of the year, so I found a week where they both had day games.

I won't be there for the full wee, as I will be visiting my sister in Baltimore again. I'm actually flying to Baltimore, will take the train up to NYC, and then go back to fly home from Baltimore. Strange, but we'll see how it goes. Who knows, maybe I can work it out to spend an evening on the Jersey shore as well.

I know very little about New York City, so any ideas are welcomed. I think my sister will be joining me for a couple of days as well, so maybe we'll see if we can get tickets for Avenue Q or Xanadu.

So if you only have a few days in New York City, what do you do? Any suggestions?

Any chance of getting tickets to either Late Night or The Late Show?

I sort of forgot about that...there's the Daily Show and the Colbert Report as well. Thanks for that idea!

My first trip was last October and I loved it.

Suggestion: Try a different style of restaurant whenever you can of something you just can't find in Texas.

I'm so un-adventurous with food, but still, there is the chance to get away from most of the chain restaurants and find some really interesting places, even within my narrow range of food. So maybe no Ethiopian, but certainly less McDonalds.

If you are coming down the shore, let us know, would be great to see you again, and your sister. (she and her husband are a blast btw)

I'm not sure I'll be able to wing it, but I would like to see you and Tom, and meet Ed and his partner if I can wile I'm in the area. I'm just not sure how not having a car and taking the train would work to get out to where you are. I'm not sure about the commuter rail and such.

We should definitely talk, and see what can be done. As for Laura, well, I'm still working out with her what days she'll be able to get off work.

By the by, did I provide you with the photo I took of you and Nakia, um,...interacting after the Bears on the Run concert?

No, you haven't but it's not like I've seen you in months, either!

I just got back from New York last week. I had the most fantastic time with [livejournal.com profile] peterpandanyc, (who took us to the most AMAZING restaurant in Chinatown for Dim Sum; two and a half hours of bliss!), [livejournal.com profile] lifeofjovolume1, (whom I'm sure in a previous life wanted to be a race car driver) [livejournal.com profile] perkbear, (who is absolutely precious!) [livejournal.com profile] mat_t, (who was an absolute life saver, and showed me around Manhattan) and [livejournal.com profile] bulldogcubnj, (a little hotty that I met last December when I went to Manhattan with [livejournal.com profile] wanderbear. I also, thankfully, had the opportunity to finally meet up with [livejournal.com profile] pagerbear at Grand Central Station over margaritas and men watching. *sigh* definitely good times indeed!

So, I would encourage you and your enterouge to go to the Golden Unicorn located at 18 E. Broadway. And, of course, stop by Ty's and the Dugout on Christopher Street. Definitely hit the Dugout on Sunday afternoon if your schedule permits; it's awesome. TKTS had discount theater tickets for day of performances, and is located at the Marriott Marquis on 46th between Broadway and 8th Avenue.

Dang New York City has the most attractive men in it.

Enjoy it; I'm going back before the year is out!

Very cool. I'm not sure I'll be able to make the Sunday beer bust, unfortunately, but I'll definitely try to make it down there for a drink or two. I've heard of TKTS, and I guess I'll just have to learn their system to score some cheaper tickets to a couple of shows.

I've met jason (Bulldog) before, but it looks like I need to start meeting some fellas up there!

I know I can't do everything, and when the new stadiums are built, there will be a whole new reason to go, so it's not like I can't leave something for another time, but I so want to see all sorts of things!

Too bad you aren't going the same week I will! It would be fun to travel with you sometime!

One thing of interest: NY Waterways has a delightful 90-minute skyline and harbor tour. They have nice boats and good staff -- I used them when I planned tours.

Very interesting. It's too bad they don't have a twilight cruise. That would probably be great. I'll have to look in to doing this. It would probably beat the Boston Duck Tour or the Chicago River cruises Thanks!

I will. I've let some of the other ballparks go, like Riverfront in Cincinnati and Three Rivers in Pittsburgh. I couldn't get there before they were torn down, but they don't have the historical significance that Yankee Stadium has. Shea is just a throw in. Really, it's the same configuration as the Astrodome without the roof!

I'll be sure to post pictures and info about the trip.

I hoped to travel back to the area to check out Shea Stadium one last time. As much as the subway trips to a Mets game brings back some good memories, the venue was not as impressive as other stadiums. (Wrigley Field is one of my favorite MLB parks of the 10 I've visited.)

FYI: If you have some free time, check out Flushing Meadow Park (the former World's Fair and the current U.S. Tennis Open facilities), the Staten Island Ferry (free fare!), Central Park and any of the numerous art museums. My favorite: the Guggenheim.

Yeah, I totally expect to be disappointed by Shea. Heck, the stadium layout is exactly like the Astrodome, but lacking a roof. I'm sure the maintenance on it has gone down since the announcement of the new stadium.

Favorite stadiums? I like Houston's Enron Field (now Minute Maid, Pac Bell in San Francisco, and Fenway in Boston, for the history.

I know I don't have time to do everything in the city, and will have to use my time well. I'm not sure how much time I will spend off of Manhattan, except for the baseball games! I'm not sure how close Flushing Meadows is to Shea.

The No. 7 subway line's next-to-last stop is Willets Point-Shea Stadium, which is also the entrance way to Flushing Meadows Park and the USTA Tennis Facility.

The Long Island Railroad also has a stop at Shea from Penn Station. It's a couple of dollars more expensive than by subway but takes a relatively shorter amount of time to get there from Manhattan.
