Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is the only holiday I know of that I get along with the bank tellers, but not with much of the rest of the world. Bank tellers get Columbus Day, but I do not. Most people don't get this day off because it is close to other holidays. Personally, I think we could honor Dr. King and still move this date to August when we don't have other holidays.

Still, much like the vacation day I took a month and a half ago, having this day off allowed me to miss the driver's pinball game that goes on in Dallas every time there is an ice storm. Chris was not so lucky, but he managed to get to and from work just fine. I got to sit on the couch and read comics and finally get through some of my Netflix movies while Joey the Dog harassed the Roomba cleaning upstairs.

We went out to Chili's tonight for dinner and the place was nearly deserted. I'm not sure if it was the cold, or the fact that the waitress who will not touch food was working. We've had her once, and she's horrible. Apparently we insulted her by not coloring a pepper for charity - you know, spend a buck for charity and color the logo to go on the wall to show how well the store has done getting people to fork over extra money. When we turned her down, I guess we ruined her percentage of sales or something, so her service for the rest of the meal was terrible. We call her "no touchy" (said like David Spade's character from "The Emperor's New Groove") as she has other people bring out all of her food and drinks, and has a busboy clear it. she never touches a plate, on out table or anyone else's. Very strange.

At dinner I told Chris that while watching the news in the afternoon, one of the weather forecasters said that he new that some precipitation would be coming down on Wednesday, but said we would have to watch the 6 o'clock news to find out what kind it will be. This was one of the dumbest teases I'd ever heard. For one thing, we can all check the internet to find out it's going to snow on Wednesday, but you don't tease the weather, you tease that something in your house can kill you, or that a celebrity was caught doing something. Personally I'm waiting for "We have video of children having sex. Find out if it's yours at ten!"

With snow in our forecast, that just means the local news can continue to train cameras on the freeway mixmasters to try to pinpoint when ice form. then they hope an accident will occur during the newscast.

Finally, Chris and I finally figured out what the cable channel LOGO needs. They need to take Lifetime movies and recast the leads as same-sex couples. I'm not sure who would play Valerie Bertinelli, or Meredith Baxter Burney, but think of the possibilities.

The teasing and "find out what could kill you at 11s" and "save the childrens" are some of the main reasons why I don't watch network news. Also, cnn.com seems to be getting worse and worse about that, making their headlines deliberately obscure to try to get you to click. I won't be their pawn! I won't! Except for sometimes...

On LOGO, have you watched "Can't Get a Date"? It's really good, but unfortunately there are only 6 episodes. Hopefully they'll make more.

They've run 2 marathons of those 6 episodes of "Can't Get a Date" this week and my poor TiVo just keeps recording them since they don't have episode information.

As for Lifetime movies, I'm thinking Carson Kressley or Peter Paige as Meredith Baxter. I was going to pitch Mitchell Anderson as he hasn't done in any acting in 4-5 years, but apparently he's now a restaurant owner/chef in Atlanta. Maybe Alan Cumming for Valerie Bertinelli, but he and Rupert Everett are problably still too expensive for television.

Are we ready for a gay asian leading man? B.D. Wong has done some very interesting stuff on Oz and Law & Order: SVU.

Well, if you went with strictly gay casting, I think BD Wong has a pretty good chance. I don't think Kressly can act his way out of a paper bag. He might make a good Joan Crawford, though.

Actually, I thought of an intergenerational detective series with B.D. Wong and George Takei, set in San Francisco, naturally. Sort of a gay Hart to Hart.

I had heard that there was a pilot going around Hollywood for a TV series that was a gay Hart to Hart, and that Steve Martin had produced it. I think it was called Mr and Mr Jones, but I could be wrong. Suppoedly a network was going to pick it up, but that's been a while. Still, it could be a fun, kitchy thing, because Hart to Hart was. I'd guess instead of Max, they would have a maid that would be a female lead for the show.

I haven't seen much on LOGO in a while. I don't find a lot of content worth watching - though I might catch an old episode of Tales of the City once and again.

I agree about local news. Since it's the largest source of ad revenue a station gets, there's very little news content, mostly just auto wrecks and stories that have been processed through a PR flack. News beureaus have been cut so much that there's not much in the way of reporting, and everything has to have a local "spin" even if it has nothing to do with the area. Love trying to tie in local people into a national or international story.

Some of the favorite stories around here are the ones where they go into investigate strip clubs around sweeps weeks. Oh the outrage. It's nothing new, the whole "Best little Whorehouse in Texas" was based on such a news story from Houston in the 1970's.

Indeed. It's also true in the national media, although to a less outrageous extent. What's annoying is that CNN actually has a good news channel - CNN International. We just don't get it here, at least on cable in my area.

I do miss Marvin Zindler, though. SLIIIIME in the ice machine!!!

Yeah, Marvin, as of last year was still kicking along, but I think they secretly have to wheel him from place to place for the stories. He still has the white wig and the blue glasses and still shouts up a storm. He's had more plastic surgery than Joan Rivers. If he were 30 years younger, I think he could end up on Fox News. He was ahead of his time.
