Selling The Sizzle
Aug. 8th, 2005 11:24 pmWell, I'm still not sure if my audio link access has been allowed at this time, I still haven't heard anything beyond one message that the LJ team had at least gotten the message offline, and were still looking into the problem. The last one went out around 8:29pm Saturday night. Why 8:29? I have no idea, but after an initial 12 post blast on Friday evening (that Chris (
f__k) nicely wiped off for me as I was driving) then the post replicated itself over 20 times.
I will have to think twice about doing another phone post.
The weekend was nice, even if I didn't get any action in the rest area. Damned frat boys, always working together to destroy people's dreams.
Still, Chris and I continued to firm up plans for the Bay Area trip that's coming in two weeks. We set down that we'll be seeing a Giants game, and uhm, something else sometime. Still, we're going to get a rental car...and stuff.
We saw Randy (
lostncove) and Matty (
mattycub) when they had eventually woken up sometime after 2pm and eventually worked their way out of Matty's cave. Apparently Randy was on vacation, so he wasn't working on one of his scripts at that time, instead he was trolling for bears on line or something. Oh how art suffers.
We also saw the elusive Michael (
mikeybeartx) who joined us at BW3 for an evening.
The highlight of the weekend though was my birthday dinner on Saturday. While Chris didn't say for sure where we were going, I had an idea, knowing one of the gifts that his parent's had given him for Christmas. When Chris said that we could go in jeans and a collard shirt, I said no. I thought that we should dress it up a little bit, so the slacks and ties went on.
I was really glad that we did dress up. Sure, there were people at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse who were dressed down, but I was glad that we were showing a little bit of class at a place that I've always considered a cut above other steakhouses. At least by reputation. When we got there, and checked on our reservations, they were very apologetic that they were running behind - probably more apologetic than any other restaurant I've been to in a while. We went to the bar where I ordered a Jack and Coke - mainly because I was put on the spot and couldn't think of any other drink to order. Chris laughed at my ordering of such a manly drink (not like he did that bad with his Gin and Tonic). I guess it's that John-wayne inspired DNA imprint of my Dad's that makes me order such an ordinary, stiff drink.
When we did get to our table, Chris ordered a wine from a California winery that he knew. I hadn't had red wine (Shiraz, actually) in many a year. It went quite well with the seared Ahi and the fantastic steaks we had. The steak was absolutely incredible. I love steak, but I'll tell you, that's probably the best one I've ever had.
As we were going along, the amount of alcohol I had was going to my head. I wouldn't say that I was drunk, but I was quite giggly and talkative as I had gone through about abut half of the wine bottle. At one point I did tell Chris that this was the most expensive meal that I had ever eaten, which lead to a long discussion about my parents. We also tried to talk to the good-looking waiter, who wasn't ours, as the room cleared of other diners, and got in a big birthday kiss in as well.
Because we were delayed in getting our reservation, which really wasn't much of a deal at all, we were both given free deserts. When we spoke to the cute waiter, he told us that a wedding party had delayed everything by staying an hour longer that they should have. No surprise there. So I ordered a Chocolate Mousse Cake, and Chris picked up some Creme Brulée. I think I ate a fourth of the creme brulée and we took home half of the mousse. As we left, sometime after eleven, after a couple of hours of dining bliss, we were thanked by the restaurant management, and left the almost deserted location.
It was wonderful that Chris shared his Christmas gift with me and now this kind of ups the ante for Chris' birthday coming up at the end of the month. I've already told him that the money's going to be tight, because of the trip to San Francisco, but perhaps we can go somewhere in the city that will be special, and celebrate a few days early. Any suggestions?
Any other meal I had over the weekend paled in comparison to that one steak dinner. Thank you baby.
