For the several cable television stations that use this programming as time filler: The people playing poker are not stars. Sure, there may be "celebrities" playing poker, but it's not enough to elevate this game to being watchable, not in the least. You can't convince me that the unknown poker pros are the new "sports" stars or some sort of reality personality. They sit on their but and try not to have emotions. It's boring.
As much as this is boring, don't think that you can make other card games sell on TV either. Blackjack, penuckle, canasta, bridge - all boring. The whole idea of of casino games on TV is pretty silly. The only thing more boring, yet they have tried it, is televised Scrabble.
I don't know what you can do to fill the time, lord knows I hat infomercials, but they are sometimes more interesting than this. Where's Cher doing the hair care product line? Can she deal?
