Bay Area Motoring
Aug. 21st, 2005 11:54 amA couple of things about the trip so far.
We're in San Francisco right now, so we can attend Hairrison today. We're staying in this really cute hotel in the financial district. It's more of a business travelers place, but it will do just fine for us. It's very european in it's room size and compactness, and modern too. It reminds me a little of the small hotel we stayed in in Paris when I was in college, but that was much more run down. This is sort of IKEA-ised and even has a dictionary and thesaurus at the desk. I'm looking forward to seeing the view on the sunroof deck.
We've spent the last few days in the South Bay and on Beautiful and the weather has been great. I'm still not believing that it is August here. The coast was windy, and the water cold. The Santa Cruz boardwalk looked about as well taken care of as Astroworld, which is to say that is has seen some better days. Still, I loved that many of the South Bay's towns have taken care of their downtown areas, making for nice shopping villages. We walked around Mountain View and had dinner in Los Altos and both were better than Texas' miles of strip malls.
We're driving a new Prius. I was worried about this car not having enough get up and go, but it's doing fine. Only once in the Santa Cruz mountains did it ever whine. It seems to handle itself well. This car is a control freak's dream since it has a readout screen that tells you just how much energy you are creating, using or have expended over the course of your journeys.
Otherwise, good food, good weather, and a good time seeing Chris' old haunts, and now onto city sights today.
