Monday, In the Park
May. 30th, 2005 07:16 pmI was out in Memorial Park today, walking and enjoying some time reading under our cloudy skies. There were a couple of people worth watching, and even some guys who would be nice with a bag over their heads. I've had better people watching, but hey, what are you going to do?
I was listening to tunes in the new iEgg. I didn't name it that. Chris changed the iPod's name before he gave it over to me. Personally I think it's the hand-me-down-Pod, but I'm happy to have it since now I can take all of my favorite music with me. I've filled 20GB of the 40GB little pod. It's also smaller than the old 5GB. Now I can also start finding books and podcasts.
Otherwise, there were two oddball cars in the park today. One was a large van that was covered with peel and stick letters stating that this was the last generation and Jesus would be arriving soon, blah, blah, blah. Still, If he's right, will being able to spell with stick on letters be enough to get you into heaven?
The other vehicle, a truck, had a large rig so there could be an American flag, taller than the big truck itself, could flap in the breeze. Now I'm not offended by the idea of flying the flag on a day that is meant to celebrate those who fought wars, weather good or bad, for the US, but this guy was obviously related to Mr. peel-and-stick minister.
The truck also had several messages carefully leaded as if by a three-year-old. Most were the "support our troops or you're not an American" type BS, but then there was the one that stuck out to me: "Let's Kick Iran's Ass".
Uh-huh. Let's see, we can't do well enough to keep control over Iraq or Afghanistan, nor can we get our armed forces the men and women needed to keep the current campaigns going. Recruiting sucks because kids, and their parents don't want to go and fight this war. what a surprise. So you, Mr. Truck Flagger, will you go fight the war in Iran for us? Just remember Iran is better armed, more focused and more populated than the two chaotic countries we've taken. You my friend, are a moron.
Still, there are honorable men and women in the armed forces that should be celebrated, and our past fighters honored. It's decisions by fools that should be condemned.
Otherwise, a relaxing day away from the television. The book, Here, There and Everywhere, by Chris Roberson, should be finished in no time.
