Last night I saw my sister and her fiance for the last time for a while. They had come down to Houston for one last time to see their friends before taking off for Baltimore this morning.

They were supposed to be here a couple of days earlier, but the moving van, which was supposed to pick up their stuff in Arlington on Wednesday, didn't actually show up until Friday. Laura and Ed came down and surprisingly, stayed at my parent's house. I know they were trying to save money during the move, but I could see my sister was really not enjoying being in my mother's presence.

We went out for dinner both Saturday and Sunday night. One night we went to a local italian place that's owned by this wonderful couple. The husband is this great bearish man, totally hot, who not only cooks, but late in the evening, will also start playing piano, as well. He also likes to come around and greet the patrons, and he's kind of touchy-feely. Grr. Needless to say I didn't mind that I got a few back pats.

Still, it was kind of sad to see my sister go off on her big adventure. She's going to be so far away. She moved to Dallas some seven years ago, which was one thing, but now, I'll be luck to see her once or twice a year. This will be very different for me. We've been very close, since we grew up and gave up that sibling rivalry crap of childhood.

Still, it's that moving on, and reinvention thing that I envy, too. I want that. It's time for that, and I can't seem to unlock it.

It was interesting to watch my mom try to needle my sister about wedding plans. I don't think Laura is ready to actually get married anytime soon. They are still waiting for Ed to finish his college degree, and it's unknown if his turning in his last paper last semester will do the trick or not. If it didn't do it, who knows what they'll do several thousand miles away.

Laura will walk down the aisle when she's good and ready.

Of course, she'll have to get Ed out of the idea of wearing boots to the wedding, first.

One other thing. When you think things are really bad, sometimes you get a little kick in the pants. I went to get gas for the car last night I saw that the person working the counter worked with me at Target some six years ago. I went and talked to her for a little bit to see how things were going.

Apparently se had left Target not to long after I had, stating that it had "gone to pot", and her husband had done so not long after. Her husband was a Level III manager as I was at the time. She said that he just didn't like the stress. He went on to working at the community college and makes a little more than he did for Target.

I thought, a little more than he did for Target? Good grief, I make quite a bit more than I did at Target now. So there it is. Things could be a lot worse. Sometimes you just have to have it pointed out to you.

Hopefully Laura and Ed will have a good drive through Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee today on their way to Maryland.
