Happy Birthday to James ([livejournal.com profile] theevilnub), welcome to your thirties!

I finally finished my Christmas cards. This was the largest batch of them, and I will drop them off at the downtown post office so they will get sorted overnight and get out of town. they'll have the best chance of getting to people's houses before the end of the week. Still, I couldn't find some addresses for some people, so I may have to email them, it's a little late to ask now I guess.

I got through two Netflix movies as I was working on them today, Die Mommie, Die and Magnolia. Not exactly holiday fair for either one. I was wondering at first if Mommie was supposed to be parody, much like Charles Busch's previous movie Psycho Beach Party, but it's actually played pretty straight, much like a "women's movie" of the mid twentieth century you'd see staring Joan Crawford, Bettie Davis or who knows, Talllulah Bankhead, only staring a drag queen in the title role. Some of it's played kind of tongue-in-cheek, but it's not really that funny. I guess they could have camped it up more, but then it would have been just that, a camp movie parody of a camp movie. Maybe they'll let Charles Busch try again with one of his other plays.

Magnolia is another story. I was buying into it until everyone starts singing the same Aimee Mann song. Sorry, L.A. I'm sure is magical, as observed by the Deux ex Machina ending to the movie which I also have problems with, and never seems to be really acknowledged or changes anyones lives to have this extremely bizarre event to happen, but still, they all sang along to Aimee Mann, so I guess anything's possible. When do the Sharks and Jets move into Watts?

Otherwise, Way back on Friday I went out on Friday with Kip ([livejournal.com profile] scarabbear) for dinner and we were doing well with some trivia at BW3. Our location actually had some competition that night, with was nice. I forgot to mention the the question a week prior when I was out with Jerry ([livejournal.com profile] goofycubb) and they had a questions asking, "A riot at a New York City Bar in June 1969 was the start of what movement?" It was truly a time where the phrase that Chris ([livejournal.com profile] oakleycub) overheard some other people say one night ("if (that guy) gets this question, he must be gay" - the question had nothing to do with sexuality) , actually meant something.

On the way out of BW3, a couple of abercrombie looking models were looking at me. I had to admit I was surprised. Hmm, not my usual type, but I was flattered. I can't help but think it was because that's what I've been told I'm supposed to like. Who knows?

Kip and I got coffee, and the cute barista listened to our silly banter about decalf coffee, since I find that a peppermint mocha is great, but it gets my ticker going. I was actually trying to flirt. Hrumph. Afterwards, we went to check on the members of the big men's club to see if they were cooking up burgers at the well-christmasly-lit Ripcord. They decided to call it off, but we stayed and chatted with several people there, just having a nice time. Kip and jerry finally met in person, witch was very interesting, to say the least. Jerry seemed to have a lot of energy that night.

I took Kip home, and he got a call from his baby, Noah. Kip's off to L.A. this week, so he, and Noah should be careful if they happen to start breaking out into any Aimee Mann tunes.

Saturday was Tubachristmas. I got there a little late, and really didn't do much but look good. I have to admit, I really don't play much anymore, so I felt a little like Ashlee Simpson. Except with a large metal object. There were over three hundred this years, so it was easy to blend in. It got hot fast, out in the sun, though. I think it reached 80 degrees while we were out there, and it reflected off of all that brass. What happened to the fiberglass horns?

I guess this makes me question if I really want to go to the Dallas Tubachristmas event on Christmas Eve. Still, I saw Tank and Jana, and I saw Cindy and Spanky and their new boy John. It's been a while since I had run into them, so we ended up talking for a while after the event. Then I ended up talking to Chris on the phone outside the parking lot for another hour.

After than, a little more Christmas shopping, but I have to admit I still haven't found anything for my Mom. I mean, I could always get her a book from some crazy conservative talkshow host, hell, they write enough of them, but why should I re-enforce that stuff? I'll have to do better than that. I wish that Naomi Neal's book was out!

I still have to find something for Laura, too. Hmm. Cards done, but Christmas still goes on!
