I have the responsibility of bringing the team breakfast this morning. I wouldn't tell the team what I'm bringing (usually this is announced), but I like to surprise them. So what am I bringing? Cold Pizza. I had a hard time prepping for this, because the local Pizza Huts closed at 10. I always thought they were open extra-late. Domino's came to my rescue.
Last night's cryptic post was based on a potential employer's call yesterday. In a way I was really excited, but as we talked over the phone, I wondered if this job is really right for me. It's more of an entry-level position that I'm overqualified for, except that I need a higher-level license that I'd have to study for. Let's look at some pros and cons:
Pros
Just north of Ft. Worth
Strong, stable, privately owned company
Room for advancement
Familiarity with job/industry
Cons
A call center job. taking calls all day - no fun
As John Lennon sang, "It's just like starting over..."
I'd earn $6-7,000 less than I do now
Have to stay on call center for one year before advancing
Lower bonus structure
Less desirable hours - I could start at 7am, or finish at 11pm, and I'd likely have to work Saturdays
No relocation help
So now I'm trying to decide, should I interview for this job or not. How desperate am I to get to Dallas? If this job were in Houston, I'd turn this down in a second, but now, having been turned down for two jobs in Dallas, I'm feeling a little worried about my opportunities.
Should I see if they might offer me something a little better? If they would match my current salary, I would be much more responsive, but right now...
