Miami Chris ([livejournal.com profile] dedos) is in town, and we had dinner and came back to my house to watch some TV, including Fox's My Big, Fat, Obnoxious Finance. Really, the show is pretty funny, especially when you can have a good time laughing at the cruelty the producers unleash on this poor woman.

if you haven't seen it, this girl, Randi, is put on a faux dating show, and they give her a special assignment, she can win the money if she agrees to fool everyone that she's going to marry this guy, that they have chosen. The thing is, she thinks the guy is another contestant, chosen by the producers, but really he, and his family, are actors. The deal is to make this as difficult a deception as possible.

Of course the actor, Steven, tries to play on all of her dislikes, getting on her nerves as much as possible, but he has to be careful not to piss her off so much that she quits the show. Steve's held as being ugly, but really, he's not terribly bad, in my view. Sure, he's overweight, and hairy, but then most of the men watching the show are, too.

So who's watching this? Truly, I think it's mostly guys who have been turned down by a girl just like Randi, hoping she gets her just desserts. I have no vendetta against her, but I have to admit that her reactions are priceless. There's something funny about seeing someone, someone you have no attachment to, be totally embarrassed.

Still, these shows get more and more cruel. Where is this leading to?
