I got started on a new column fodder Post, but it's not jelling quite as I want it to, so it will go in the cooler for a few hours. There's something I can't quite capture. I'm not sure if it's that I'm not quite convinced on my opinion on the subject, or if it's just a problem getting the right "hook". It's a personal subject I'm trying to universalize - I'll keep trying.

Last night I went out to the Houston area Bears Meeting. The regular meeting room was taken, so the meeting was held in the restaurant below, much to the chagrin of the waitstaff. The meeting room is also the banquet room for the restaurant and there was a christmas party that they had booked. the Triad seemed a bit steamed over the whole thing.

It was hard to hear everything, but it does look like we may sponsor a softball tournament between several of the clubs in town. I can't really play softball, I was in the band. I have a few experiences, most notably when the Tubas challenged the trombones one year in college. I got one run, and did a magnificently horrible job of playing catcher for 5 innings. We were loosing at the end of seven and were ready to go, but the trombones wanted to keep playing. We won something like 22-13 as their pitching went south. Since it isn't the big leagues, the bears have their own annual team that I'm not even close to being good enough (I can't catch, for one thing), I may try to play in the fun tournament.

I may also help write skits for the upcoming LUEY (Let Us Entertain You) weekend that happens after Mardi Gras. Houston clubs put on a big effort, trying to attract people leaving New Orleans (or those Louisianains who escaped that week). The show is supposed to be tacky and tasteless, and they idea is to have clever skits, with out much dialogue (that's tough for me) since the club it's held in is loud. Physical humor it is. We'll see what I can do.

Here's to getting involved.

Oh yeah, the guy I saw at the bar and had the small talk, but not actually telling him what I thought from last weekend. he was at the meeting. I got to tell Casey that he looked good in his leathers the other night. Yeah for me.
