In years past...
Nov. 12th, 2003 11:51 pmI spent much of Sunday afternoon and even the early evening at the Texas Renaissance Festival.
I took some pictures, and you can find them here. I tried to take pictures of the cute guys around (can you tell I'm horny?), but my camera's to damn slow. Plus, I didn't want some guy asking me why I was taking pictures of him. Stealth's the word.
One of the main acts I went to see is Sound and Fury. they label themselves as "Fakesperian Players". I saw two shows this year, two shows I had already seen them perform, Testaclese & ye Sack of Rome and Romeo & Juliet ver. 2.0. Still, even though I know the shows, it's still fun because they usually go off book, and this day they were wildly off book. It's the dirtiest show at the fair that doesn't involve mud. as they put it, "The Queen saw the show (and he loved it!) and rated it Ren Fest 14. What that means is, if your kids are little and they don't know where babies come from, they will by the end of the show."
I went alone this year, this being the last weekend I could go. I ran into a couple of frat brothers, and I spotted someone that i've seen in on-line personals, and nodded. He doesn't know me. Still, I stayed quiet and kept to myself. At one of the two Sound and Fury shows I did get noticed as I laughed loudest when a bathroom gloryhole was somehow thrown into the whole crazy mix of things. Oh well.
Otherwise, there was magicians, shops, though I didn't find anything I couldn't do without, and just a lot of people watching. It's hard to say why I like the Ren Fest, I guess because people like to let go, and just be. I also like looking at the mix of old, new and totally make believe. There's no reason why Robin Hood and King Henry the VIII are in the same land with fairies, wizards and every once in a while, an occasional Klingon.
