Break from the Heat
Aug. 9th, 2003 03:03 pmA very happy birthday to James (
moved) hope it's a good one, have fun at Market Days and all!
Late last afternoon the Thunderstorms moved through Houston. I was working late, around 6, but everyone except for the cleaning crew had left for the evening. I could watch as the storms built on the western horizon. I sat in my office this evening watching that storm roll in, the lightning driving crooked lines down into the Galleria Area buildings. The lightning moved to the Williams tower, and then the storm and lighting crept up and passed my Greenway Plaza windows. I couldn't look away for some reason. I kept thinking about life, relationships, and the transitory state of it all.
When I left the office it was muggy, but cooler than it had been. We reached 100 degrees yesterday...which is around tops for Houston. It often gets to be 98, but 100 is tough, still, combine it with the humidity, and the heat index usually sits around 110. It's just damn hot. When I left at 7:30 it was about 83. I went out for dinner just because I didn't want to stay in the apartment all night. My attempt to have dinner with John and Dawn fell through.
Today it's partly cloudy and 94. Fall won't set in here until October.
Nothing much occured...it was a quiet night around here, and that should continue through the weekend. No trips, no big revelations planned. I do intend to go looking at apartments since I'd like to leave Running Rats Acres when the lease is up after September...and the Dallas thing isn't coming along just yet. I may need to secure living quarters for a while. If I think I can do it, I may stay at Running Rats and sign a six month lease, in hopes that I'll move to Dallas or get a raise and be able to afford something nicer in 2004. We'll see.
I spoke to Chris for three hours today. Just a long, friendly chat. I miss not being with him this weekend, but I'll see him next weekend. Things are going well there.
