Jun. 14th, 2003 10:28 amI got up early today to go take the car over to be checked. The car has been making a grinding sound during acceleration for a couple of weeks (yes, it's procrastination time again). I think it might be the clutch, since it's never been worked on, but it may be the brakes - although they were fixed in January. I don't know.
Last night I sat at home. It rained, even stormed for a bit. I was exhausted from the past week, and I really didn't feel well. I still don't feel so well today, but I'll deal. It took everything for me to get up early today (early being a technical term meaning before 8:00). I grabbed a McDonald's sausage biscuit that will probably just make things worse, and went to Joe Auto, this huge, "new concept in automotive repair" place that's opening in Houston.
They're trying to impress you with all of the technology, but I'm wondering how that increases the prices they charge. They sign you in on this flat-panel touch screen that plays all of these little videos about their service and style - probably because they don't think their service guys can actually communicate this to you.
You can also check their webcams to see what's happening to your car. Mine hasn't made it in for it's inspection yet. I've checked.
They help set you up (and set you back, money-wise) with a rental car. I drove back home in a 2003 Chevy Cavalier, blue. It's so small. It's also an automatic. I have such a hard time not wanting to hit the clutch and change gears.
I don't intend to drive it much. It's way too small. I'm 6'1", but my legs are all pulled up and my heads in the ceiling.
Luckily I didn't have anything planned. It will probably be a pretty lazy weekend for me.
Hopefully the car will be back in my possession tonight, but if not, the earliest will be Monday. I don't care how nice and clean the shop is, auto repair sucks ass.
I'm going to go read comic books for a few hours.
