Happy Birthday to Christopher ([livejournal.com profile] imroger). I hear you're 19 again?

Hmm, I'm supposed to use the phrase "intellectual bloodsport" in conversation today? well, I'll give it a try.

Why have I gotten into Project Runway so late? Oh My God! What a bitchy show! It's great!

I also caught the SciFi channel's movie Slipstream off of Tivo the other night. I taped it because of Sean Astin, who I think is cute. The movie is pure trash, and there's no surprise that it premiered on SciFi.

A big part of the movie takes place as a hostage situation in a bus on I-10 in New Orleans. They never say its NO, but I could tell. So, in a non credited role, there's a very heavily bearded John Goodman playing the bus driver, he's taken at gun point, and has a bomb strapped to him, and has a red rubber ball gag placed on his head. I'm thinking - well, here's the porn shot. It doesn't last for long, but I'm sure some of you now can look for it in reruns and try to get a screencap.

Lastly, you know, I'm finding that the Respect in the Workplace talks we're supposed to have with our workteams are really getting boring. If it wasn't the fact that I've been working with these same folks for the last 2-4 years, we might have something to discuss, but we know our ins and outs so well.

The most recent topic was Diversity. Wow. They all know I'm gay. I know that one of them is African american, two of them are Hispanic, one is Hindu, two are Catholic, and it goes on and on. We've talked about almost every taboo subject there was on this team, and yet we're still around, and no one's run to HR. We know our limits because we've been around.

Now let us be diverse, and leave us be.

Make sure to catch the Project Runway marathon on Sunday to see all the catfights you've missed.

I wish Jay McCarroll had a livejournal.

Who is the actor that played the lead villain in Slipstream? I've seen him in a couple of movies. I can't explain why, but he really does something for me.

Gotta love talks on "Diversity".

Here's an interesting quandry at my work.

St. Louis City has an ordinance on the books preventing discrimination based on Sexual Orientation. My work has an explicit rule against such discrimination.

Yet, the internet firewall blocks an entire category of sites labelled "Gay & Lesbian".

Nice way to not only stay NOT legal, but just throw the damn handbook out as well, all at once.

So... I'm saving that little tidbit of knowledge for the "right moment" to spring to HR.

According to IMDB...It's Vinnie Jones, who once played Billy Idol in a bio-pic. I'm not sure if that's a real resume builder or not.

Yeah, but they would probably come back and tell you that several other categories are also blocked (as they are at my workplace) and it's done for productivity and business use, not discrimination. If they don't feel that Gay and Lesbian issues would ever come up as something necessary for business, they could rightfully block that as a function of you not needed to use a work computer to visit that site.

I don't think they will see denial of use of company assets to gain access to information as discrimination. Sorry.

Of course the state of Texas has no such law, and the city of Houston has something an previous mayor whipped up as an executive order that was never voted on by city council. Our rights aren't as protected here.
