I was surprised by a call from my mother tonight. She rarely calls, and I thought it was even stranger for her to call tonight, being my father's birthday tonight. My Dad works overnights, so he's already at work tonight. I sent him an e-card earlier, and I'll see him this weekend. Mom called to actually confirm that they were going to come down to Houston to see my apartment on Sunday. This is the first time they will have come to my apartment since moving to Houston two years ago.

Hmm, I need to clean this place. I'm also going to have to decide if I want to keep up my magnetic dress-up guys that live on my fridge. You know, the ones that are drawn anatomically correct? Hmm. Everything else in my apartment is rather tame. There are several pictures of LJ'ers I've met, though. Those will stay.

Mom also informed me that I have Jury Duty on Monday, October 25th. Wonderful. I'm not going to explain why, but most of my stuff, including my voter registration, is still located at my parent's house, in Montgomery County, so going to Jury Duty means going to Conroe, not that going to Jury Duty in Harris County is a party, either.

What is the best way to get off a jury? Play dumb? Play too smart? Crazy? or Perhaps be gay in one of the most conservative counties in Texas. Yeah, yeah, civic duty, at least I'll show up. That's more than most will do. Screw the civic duty of actually serving on one, though.

Man, if this keeps me from seeing Augusten Burroughs on his book tour on the 27th, someone will pay, dearly.

OK, more meme junk from one of those websites that sends you too much spam and pop-up ads:

Michael, you're a Critic! (Really? No duh.)

You're complex, thoughtful and never content to skate on the surface. Chances are you veer towards being so analytical and introspective that even positive qualities can seem like faults. The truth is that you have a very perceptive, gentle spirit.

You hate chaos at work and prefer a structured environment and sometimes you feel undervalued by your boss. There's a part deep inside you that's aching to make more money.

And that's just scratching the surface!

Then you can buy more junk for more pop psychology! Yea!

Lawyers LIKE dumb. Dumb people don't think for themselves and can be easily swayed by fancy lawyer talk. If you don't want to be on a jury, be SMART.

What is the best way to get off a jury?

By sucking them off!

Oh, you mean AVOIDING THE PARTICIPATION on a jury!

I think the "Bush is a Terrorist" shirt would work better. ;)

Or better yet. "I'm not gay... but my boyfriend is."

Wait... No no no... "FREE MARTHA!" *giggle*

"Republicans for Voldemort" has been a pretty popular sell.

Why do I see some 80-year old judge trying to figure out what office Voldemort is running for? *giggle*

That might be fun.

"What office? Oh, um, Governor, though I think he has grander aspirations."
