Truth Boats for Swift
Aug. 26th, 2004 08:20 amAt work Greg moved to a higher position, and off to another floor. When he sat across from me, we often talked about politics, in sort of a left-right discussion way. Funny, Politics is one of those things that work guidelines say we're not supposed to talk about, but I being the rebel that i am, have managed to have polite conversations about politics, as well as sex and religion at work. There the fun subjects after all.
Still Greg and I often talk politics via e-mail. He's a total news junky, watching CNN for hours. i observe, but i can't watch larry King or hours of news programming. This is yesterday's conversation:

You know, this is the sort of thing that has made me tune out the news and any election news lately. Am I the only person who knows that this BS has absolutely no bearing on whether this man can perform well in the position for which he is applying? What's more, the media has created this entire distraction. No one that I know outside the media actually cares anything about this story. I haven't heard either candidate, or the news media, actually comment on things that matter in at least three weeks now. Whether Kerry lied about Vietnam or Bush went AWOL from the Nat'l Guard is frankly
irrelevant.

Yes, I'm really tired of it. That story should have been dead a week ago.
Unfortunately Kerry keeps acknowledging it. I think he'd do better if he'd
ignore it and move to other issues. Just tell the media you're no longer
discussing it. It's all a game of "Gotcha" anyway
As for the 527's themselves. It's a legal way to use soft money, and
freedom of speech. Until they close the loophole, this is just the way it
is. you notice that Bush doesn't pay to much attention to the Move On.org
ads.
As for the ad itself, it's trying to show a character flaw in Kerry, one
that would lead people to believe that he isn't trustworthy, or a good
leader. Still, bush himself shows that military experience isn't a
requirement for the job.
The problem is, neither one of them will actually talk about plans, current
issues or anything of relevance.

Unfortunately it has become clear that neither are very effective leaders.
Whoever is elected, it will be a sad reflection on the caliber of today's
politicians. It reaffirms my belief that the smartest and most able leaders
among us never leave the private sector.

And why would you...the rewards are much better if you're capable. It seems
to go towards the old teacher's crack...If you can't do, Legislate.

Pass the hot dish and lets talk about real issues, shall we?

Date: 2004-08-26 11:15 am (UTC)Not only is there plenty of conflict-of-interest murkiness between Bush and SBV, Bush has yet to explicitly condemn the ads. And meanwhile they make new commercials.
I can't remember if you mentioned it in your journal, but it's really telling to look at a site like gop.com versus johnkerry.com, when considering which party is focusing on issues and which party is campaigning negatively against the other guy.
