Get out the Clippers

eggwardsAfter letting my goatee grow out for several weeks now I felt like I needed to trim up the few grey hairs that were peeking out of it. Those hairs seem to grow at a faster rate then the majority of the darker hairs. The goatee is now thick, bushy and probably in need of some conditioning, or at least a couple of sprays of no more tangles, because it's actually a little course and hard to get a comb through. (It, however has not started to look like Astros player Jeff Bagwell the year he grew his out to look like a pharoh, or a struggling ZZ Top impersonator).
I've resisted really cutting it back until I have to appear at another face-to-face interview with an employer. Still, with the outgroth of grey haiirs, I wanted to trim up. As I got at them, (they are actually white, not grey) I started to notice more and more. I think I stopped counting around 20. It's not a majority, and it didn't leave patches. I just trimmed them back, not trying to get rid of them or anything. Just cuting them back to be in the fold, which makes them less noticable.
Another sign of age, or my future daddy-bearness.
A couple of other age items. Kids today won't really know that much about Tom and Jerry, or Bugs bunny and crew, because their old cartoons are considered too violent, and even now rarely run on cable. I remember watching Tom and Jerry every afternoon.
Besides the loss of Viynal records, Cassettes have pretty much disappeared. It's hard to know how long CD's will last, too, but the music video seems to be a lost art. When MTV2 has abandoned playing them, there's few reasons for record lables to produce them.
Lastly, the idea of a hit network show will probably die in the next 10 years. It would be silly to think that the networks would have so much of a hold on an audince that they could get the numbers Friends did, even less the numbers a M*A*S*H or Dallas did.

... which is an odd concept as I remember watching them all the time, too. Even noticing the huge gap in quality between the classic caroons made early on and the shitty ones in the 70's with slipshod artwork, crappy detailing, and creepy music.

I haven't seen a music video in about a year now. You just made me realize that now, y'know.

And I think that's where we agree that 10 years from now, "Must See TV" will be a thing of the past. Just like "Turn on, tune in, drop out" or whatever it was...
The reason is that there's now a billion channels. Why? Because people have a new medium, the internet, to divert their attention. I mean, Food TV is a perfect example. In the past, those folks would turn on for the early Sunday morning cooking shows and now, they have a whole channel dedicated.
Eventually, I think we'll be at the point like we are with the web. Where anyone can make and publish a TV show. Just publish it on the net.
The big broadcasting giants are a thing of the past, just as the Movie theatres are no longer the mega-giants they were 25 years ago.
As for Music Videos, this morning I made French Toast for Hunter and I and while we were sitting there, I found something really odd. On MTV there was a show called "Music Videos". I told Hunter that I hadn't heard of that show on MTV in years, must be some old rerun.
I didn't check, but I'm sure VH1 was doing yet another "I Love The X0's" marathon.

as Looney Tunes. I think when I was watching
that psychotic cat and that one-step-ahead-of-him mouse demolish each other with wanton ability,
my friends were becoming pure geeks, getting
hyped up for anything involving Star Wars, Star Trek, or Dungeons & Dragons.
It's no wonder my friends and I are so damn different. I like watching animated cartoons
with giant explosions and mallets; they like lightsabers, photon torpedoes, and 10-sided dice.
I don't have any cassettes left (hell, I own very
few CD's, to boot) and I'm seriously thinking of
getting an iPod just to get rid of the CD's that
I *do* have.
My mom said that grey hair mean wisdom.
Bull. It means you're getting old, which
is my standard response whenever she saw a few
of 'em peeking out of my head.
