What's worse? To have no standards at all, or to have high standards and always seem to be failing?

No standads. At least with having high standards you can compromise on some to meet the needs of a situation, but if you have none, then you really have no where to go. Everyone fails. It at least teaches you that some standards may need to be modified or made stronger.
