I went to workout tonight, just a few minutes ago, here at the workout room at Running Rats Acres apartments. I like going late, there's usually no one there. Tonight, besides the joy of finding that the chest machine was broken, again, I find 10 people just sitting there.

Now Running Rats is nice enough to provide cable TV in the workout room. This doesn't mean that it's your surrogate living room, it's just a TV for those who need to fill their mind with more meaningless drivel when they work out. I personally don't make "appointment TV" time at the workout room (Of course, if I did I'd probably have biceps of STEEL!). I tend to listen to music on my iPod, it's more motivational than say, I Love Lucy.

So I have to ask people to move to make my circuit of machines, finally getting to the bench to do some dumbbell flys to make up for the dead machine. The group is watching something on SciFi. I don't even know what it was, since I was listening to the iPod.

As fate would have it, another group strolled in ready to work out, and they were talking - loudly, so they could hear each other over the sound of the television. Justice is served.

I finished my last reps and left, knowing that the end of their show was ruined by the gabby group of folks. Maybe they can find friends who actually get cable.

When I used to use the weight room in my college (boy that sounds butch), there was a TV in there that was always muted, and I'm sure we had cable, but it was always on the network stations, and because it was muted the closed captioning'd come on.

Which apperently didn't work. There'd be a correct letter or two here and there, but the rest was garbage. It was amusing to me to see the TV while the news was on and see that the anchor was being captioned as though he were Q-Bert. "@&*!"
