Certainly not as storied as Yankee Stadium, Shea Stadium is one of the lasd of the muti-use round doughnut stadiums of the 60's and 70's. It reminds me of the Astrodome, without the roof, of course.
I understand that the Mets' new stadium will have dimensions similar to the former home of the Dodgers, Ebbets Field. At least it will be different from Shea.
BTW: any jet flyovers? Shea is positioned on the landing path of LaGuardia Airport.
Yeah, the stadium is going up in the outfield, taking over a parking lot. The front facade is very indicative of Ebbets and I'm sure they will take many cues from the old stadium.
There were jet flyovers all throughout the game. They were taking off, having to make a pretty steep climb. When the sun peeked out, you could see shadows of jets crossing the field.
