When Darkeness Falls

Happy Birthday to Owen (
murphy)!
----------------------------------------
Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to have my now former boss tell her husband in a drunken voice, "Michael plays for the other team!" It was at the going away happy hour we were having for her. I wasn't offended, but did think it was a little odd that it came up, seemingly out of the blue, in the middle of Dave and Busters. Lisa's husband just kind of looked at me with a look of "um, OK" probably thinking, "Well, I'll never see you again, so this is no big deal". I felt the same.
So I snuck out early and went to BW3 and played a few games of NTN trivia, kicking some total ass, scoring in the top 100 in the nation on each game.
On Saturday I started watching More Tales of the City. Chris had introduced me to the first miniseries so I was happy to delve into the second thanks to Netflix. I guess I find it to be a bit of a San Francisco Primer (all be it one from the 1970's), but it may give me the wrong impression that the whole city is a big soap opera. Of course I know that J.R. didn't live in Dallas, so I guess I can figure it all out.
As I was watching I was cleaning the house preparing for my visitor from the west, Alex (
darke). Alex decided at the last minute that he needed to get out of San Antonio for the day so he took a day trip over here and we went out for dinner. As I was talking about my old and new boss, I went to go get a drink refill and found my new boss sitting a few booths over at the restaurant! Surprise! Luckily I like him.
Alex wanted to go out that night, but he was concerned that I wouldn't want to go out to the bars. Really, it wasn't that bad. I guess I may be protesting too much, but I was totally in the mood to head to the Ripcord on Saturday night. I guess I've totally got a reputation of being totally bar-phobic. Sure, it's not always my favorite destination, but at times, I can be interested, especially when going with friends. It's been months since I'd been there. It was also a good night, not too hot and the humidity was down.
When we got the, we ran into Tony (
bighoustonbear) who alex had met at Bearwatch. We talked to him for most of the night, and I found him to be very nice and interesting. We ran into Jerry (
goofycubb) and Shane (
shanecub35) as well, and they all know Alex and Tony as well, so that kept us there even later.
Alex was feeling tired, so off we went back home, were I expected Alex to stay, but he decided that it would be better to drive home for the night, so he'd be better for work the next night, so we said goodbye and off he went. I was concerned, but he insisted he was OK.
Sunday was watching more TV and going out for dinner with the folks. Mom is having surgery later this month for a pre cancerous something or other so I'm a bit concerned for her, but I think it will be alright, but it was a pretty typical meeting there.
Still, Nice to see a good friend come in for at least a little while this weekend!
