More Ways to Fight the Faux Outrage
Sep. 12th, 2006 08:50 pmI love messing around with the AFA, since I've gotten stuck on their mailing list. Usually they are outraged about something, because really, these people will never be happy. Of course it's the same thing with politicians, they will never truly solve something, because then they can't run on it anymore.
Think about it, Immigration, National Security, Social Security. hell, road construction! These issues will never be solved by the group of narcissists we have in office.
But I digress...When the AFA isn't trying to drag down a major car manufacturer they are trying to destroy America's broadcasters. They especially love ones that are over-the-air because they, unlike cable channels (for now) are regulated by the FCC.
As you may remember, our Congress this year increased the fine for any incident of "obscenity". I put that in quotes because your obscenity may not be what my obscenity is. Personally I don't like the word "turd." It sounds horrendous to me, still shit, crap, diarrhea, those don't bother me. Vaginal freshness is kind of offensive, too.
The draw of the AFA's ire this time was the 9/11 documentary that CBS aired on Sunday. this is the real footage shot by a French documentary team that just happened to be there on that fateful day, so the footage is real, raw and CBS aired the swear words that people said in the moment. CBS aired this same documentary last year, as is.
i don't think that CBS is brave, I think they just wanted to keep the integrity of the program, and show what it was really like, words and all. That's much better than ABC's dramatic re-interpritation of things. If ABC can show Saving Private Ryan unedited, why can't CBS show a real event as it was?
As you might guess, the AFA is up in arms about the swear words...mainly because they want CBS, and each one of their affiliates to be fined. I doubt they really give a damn about anything more than causing monetary damages, and to get their name in the paper as the crusaders who took it to the AFA.
The AFA has once again offered up a easy message-making machine to make your submission to the FCC easy, painless, and not requiring a single thought. The stupid thing is that they always allow you to change the message. I guess that it's done so people can personalize their pre-packaged outrage, and to prevent every single message from being a cookie cutter message. Again, I love to change them.

Here's how I changed their message:
Really, I don't care so much about what CBS showed, I didn't watch it either. I stayed away from the coverage. Still, I like to think that they had the right to show it. Can't the AFA stick to watching TBN and Daystar?

This is formal PRAISE of the allowance of real, incredible situations on broadcast television, that as in real life, result in words a few might have a problemn with. My Praise concerns the PROGRAM ON:
NETWORK: CBS and Affiliate Stations
STATION CALL LETTERS: KTVT
PROGRAM TITLE: "9/11" which was broadcast on:
BROADCAST DATE: September 10, 2006
BROADCAST TIME: 8:00PM Eastern/Pacific, 7:00PM Central/Mountain
The praise giver believes that such material is:
(a.) Spoken by most adults according to the standards of my community; and
(b.) Should be seen by millions of children who need to understand HISTORY, and a real crime that was purpotrated against the American people. It's much more important than a few loudmouth folls complaining about words that occured IN REAL LIFE, in a terrible situation.
For the reasons above stated, PRAISE GIVER urges the FCC to exercise its responsibility to IGNORE the IDIOTIC law against indecency on broadcast TV between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. (Title 18, U.S. Code, Section 1464) and leave the the broadcasters of this program ALONE.
The FCC also needs to see through the BS of messages that are instantly generated for illiterate people to complain. Especially as we know that none of those people watched the program because thy were already WARNED of it's contact by a group called the AFA, who just wants extra publicity in trying to make a scuffle about programs like this. I would hope your aganecy would not fall for such ridiculous tactics.
Documentation --------------
On September 10, 2006, CBS broadcast "9/11." During the course of the program, multiple uses of "Holy Shit" and "Fucking" were uttered at various times by people who were in a situation no one would ever want to be in, where 3,000 Americans died. Given their stress, I think those words are completely justified.
Thanks,
Michael Edwards
