Make The Escape
Nov. 15th, 2005 11:04 pmOver the last weekend, I took the new car out to Dallas. Of course, my truly smooth way of trying to surprise Chris was totally transparent, as I couldn't really deliver a good way for Chris to need to come outside to "get some stuff out of the car." Still, the new ride is a pleasure to drive.
The new car is a 2006 Ford Escape XLT Sport in Redfire with a V6 engine. I was able to get a few extras in the vehicle that I've never had before, like leather seats and a sunroof. I have to admit, that it was a pretty nice drive. It's comfortable and the stereo sounded good.
It was a really easy car to buy. I was ready for just about anything, especially after the hard, nasty selling attempt by the guy at Nissan a few months ago. One thing that helped the process was going to the dealership that Hans' brother-in-law works at. Pablo works in the service area, and couldn't sell me the car, but he did lead me to the salesperson that's sold Hans' family several cars now. If nothing else, if I was treated poorly, I know that a lot of people would hear about it.
I didn't want to clue in my salesperson of which car I had already staked out online, so we test-drove a different car, but when it got down to it, I had already chosen what I wanted. After checking on getting Sirius installed, and getting the leather seats, the negotiations began. I did it exactly as I had planned, get the car price first, then fin out what the available incentives were, price the trade-in, and lastly, get the financing. At no time did we ever play "What would you like your payments to be?" The payments were the last thing we agreed on.
The car is an automatic. I find myself trying to push down the clutch every once in a while, and there are some times when in acceleration I could go ahead an pop up a gear. While I love the sound of the six-speaker stereo, with it's six CD changer, the Sirius display is a little strange, where it doesn't put up the artist and title info without touching a button. Lastly, the steering wheel and dash are far away. Still, between that and the former car breaking down, I'm very very happy to have the new car.
I'll admit that I'm surprised that I bought an American made car, but for the price, and the good ratings I saw in my research, plus the fact that the car got better gas milage than many other vehicles in the same price range, It was a good deal.
I had to take out all of the junk that I accumulated in the XTerra and place it in the new car. I had two stickers that there weren't able to be transfered, a Bear sticker and The Flash's lightning bolt. Luckily I had a a spare Flash sticker, but after looking in Houston, I had to pick up the bear strip sticker in Dallas. Now the Escape has the same stickers and looks a little more like my vehicle. I'll have to take some better pictures than my cell phone seems to be able to do these days.
What's really good is to know that Barbie drives the same car, in almost the same color. Barbie herself is optional.
