I'm in Dallas right now, waiting on Chris ([livejournal.com profile] f__k) to come home so we can go to dinner, then I will drive back to Houston. It's been a nice respite from work, and I'm not looking forward to getting back because I have a lot of month ending stuff that's waiting on me. Still, I have a few notes to get out about the weekend.

❉First, the clutch in the car is getting more and more difficult, so I guess next weekend I'm going to have to have that looked at. It will have to take priority over replacing the shocks, which are also getting really bad. I'll have to expand upon this at a later time.

❉Second, it was good to see Matty ([livejournal.com profile] mattycub) and Jeff ([livejournal.com profile] jeffbear63), even if it was for a short time over lunch. Still, it was good conversation and I hope Jeff liked the museums in Ft. Worth.

❉A trip to IKEA turned into a lot longer experience than we first thought, but the store is huge. Chris found some odd children's toys that he was able to use as "viruses" for his infected computer system costume he wore to work on Monday.

❉Because I managed to take a nap and Chris got interested in playing City of Villains, we got out to Dallas' gayborhood halloween block party really late and didn't get to actually switch into costume. I'm still not sure what I would have gone as...but I did bring my renaissance fair outfit, and my overalls, so I'm sure some sort of thing could have been cobbled together.

Still, once we got out there, I was somewhat glad I didn't have a costume, because it was so crowded, it was hard for many in costume to move about. Now, my costume wouldn't have stuck out, but I guess I wasn't much for calling attention to myself by that time. Chris was thinking about using a cheerleading outfit he had, including skirt and big foam bouffant that i know would have been knocked off at any turn.

I wasn't the only one without a costume. There were plenty of people out there who were just there to look. It seems that it's become the place for Dallas to party, gay and straight. Most of the folks lined up along the runway where the more show-off members of the community twirled their way down the street in a sort of people's parade. Some were clever, like the very realistic Mr. Incredible, some were well done, like the guy in the Halo outfit, and others seemed to be repeated every few persons, like the endless Dorothy's and Evil Queens.

We ran into Bruce ([livejournal.com profile] enigmacub) and friends and saw a few other folks, but it seemed that other people we knew were staying away. We parked blocks and blocks away, so the walk really made it where we didn't want to stay for too long, and it was already way past midnight.

Personally, I'm not a halloween guy. It can be fun to dress up, certainly, but I guess it's a social scene that comes with a lot of pressure.

❉Monday led me to my doctor's office for the annual checkup, and things are doing as well as usual, and I've lost a tiny bit of weight since last year, but not as much as I had hoped, but still, I can't be too upset. Still, I got assigned a new medicine, again. My doc really loves to throw the latest and greatest thing at me, and every year all of my prescriptions change. I'll write more about it when I get the prescription filled. At least I get to drop the fuzzy-headed medication that was supposed to control my appetite. Sorry, that one didn't work so hot, now did it?

❉Last night was Liz Phair at the Gypsy Tea Room. I thought 8:00 meant that the opening act was going on at that time, but when we arrived at 9, they still hadn't come on. The opening act was better for their banter than for their music, but Liz finally came on around 10:30. She said that since it was Halloween that she wanted to dress up, but didn't have the heart to tease her hair to look like a Dallas socialite...too bad, that would have been great. She also refrained from dressing up in White Sox gear...i wasn't the only one booing.

Still, she appeared in a black dress and tiara announcing herself as Queen of the Dammed, and the backing band were here zombie minions, and had dark circles around their eyes. A few songs later someone handed her a cowboy hat which she wore for several songs. She was in good spirits and seemed to be enjoying herself, which made it a great show. the venue was about half full, so no-one was very far away, and there was a good banter between her and her audience. She even took a couple of requests.

What was funny, is that one of the requests, H.W.C., was requested by the mall twink boys in front of us. The song, about the magical properties of hot, white cum, was understandably a favorite of theirs, but they didn't seem to know, or react to any of her other songs. When she did play the song they wanted, they also seemed to be emotionally detached, like they didn't know she was playing it. I wonder why they came to the show?

She had prepared a couple of halloween treats for the audience, playing CCR's Bad Moon on the Rise early in the show, and during the encore the keyboardist grabbed a cowbell. With shouts of "More Cowbell" came from the audience they really did launch into the cowbell laden cover of Blue Oyster Cult's Don't Fear The Reaper.

She finished right around midnight and had gone through about every song I wanted to hear, (I would have died if she had actually done her cover of the Banana Splits Theme), so it was very satisfying. Chris and I went to eat, since we missed dinner thinking we were late for the concert.

❉Well, that's that...I looked online for jobs yesterday and today during my downtime, but now I think I will have to start looking for the services of a recruiter. This is too time consuming, and I think they may be better at searching for matches. Any suggestions?
