I'm in Charm City, otherwise known as Baltimore, at the home of my sister. Laura lives in a top-floor apartment in what used to be a Quaker-sponsored girls school , built back in the 1880's, hence the Old Friends School Apartments name. The apartment is quite quirky, with the bedroom upstairs in the rafters, and the apartment itself is carved out of what used to be the gym.

Yesterday was a travel day, so I haven't seen much of the city except for a few glances out a car window and a Burger King. I hear that there's little fast food variety here, just McDonalds, Burger King, KFC, and maybe a Taco Bell lurking somewhere, No Hardees, certainly no Whataburger. Who knows. Still, Laura and Ed have only been here five months, so they've only explored the city so much.

When I got to the airport yesterday I was expecting to go through Chicago, and then on to Baltimore, but due to a flood at O'Hare my flight was re-routed through Dallas and actually was earlier than the original, Several other passengers were also taken aback as a whole different itinerary came up on their screen as they were expecting, even those who were just flying direct to Chicago. That flight was wiped off of the schedule.

One of the shortest flights is Houston to Dallas. It's 39 minutes in the air. There are shorter, heck, there's a flight between the two airports in Houston if you want it, but still, it was fun to watch the flight attendants try to serve all the drinks and snacks before it was time to land. The fligh crew was great on that one, since they were all family out of San Fransisco. When I came abord and headed to the back of the plane Antonio told me to wait, and gave me a blanket, saying I would need it if I were sitting in row 30. I asked why. He said, "There's a whole lot of glitter on those seats." I shot back, "Oh, I'm man enough to handle some glitter." and all was known.

The other flight attendant, Terry, was a black drag queen (not on the flight, obviosly, but we talked) from San Jose who was asking if I had ever been to IBR. He said he'd been a couple of times, and really loved it. I'd said I'd never been there, but TBRU was pretty big, too. I was wishing that this flight crew could follow me onto the next flight, they were a lot of fun.

The new itenerary wasn't very forgiving, as the flight to Baltimore was boarding the moment we landed, and it was in a different terminal. DFW has put in a new rail line, but it's attached in a really funny way to the buildings sort of above everything. Definitely a feat of engineering something way after the original design. I think they held the plane back, due to luggage and other people on my flight who were making the same connection, so we were able to get on without too much fuss.

The second flight was very crowded on a larger plane, and I was in the middle seat next to a teacher and some old cranky little asian woman. Needless to say I didn't say much to the asian woman. The teacher was friendly and was traveling to the Univ. of Maryland to go with students to attend a history competition. We talked about her curriculum, the revolutionary war, and geography for a while. It was kind of nice.

Otherwise, they showed The Wedding Date, a movie with Debra Messing that's definitely a movie that should be shown on airplanes because it's not really worth the rental. Sort of a reverse Pretty Woman meets Four Weddings... without the funny. They also showed some CBS shows that had been canceled. Way to promote. Still, I hadn't been on a flight with a movie in some time.

After a long time to get the bags, Laura and Ed drove me off and I got my first look. It's definitely older from what I've see. More of that east-coast closely built brownstones and such. very different from what I'm used to.

Well, It's time to get out and get moving. We'll be moving about town until Ed gets off work, then it's of to Washington DC for a little bit of the Capitol Pride festival.
