* Mmm, hungry. Haven't gone to dinner yet. Don't know why I haven't, probably since I can't make up my mind of where to go. Still, there's not anything in the house that will do, so I have to get something. Restaurants are closing, so it will probably be something crappy.

* Enterprise. Ugh. I wasn't much of a fan, but the last season was - decent. The last episode was - sad. Not in the way of, oh I'll miss this, no, like this was poorly written bad. Here's how stunt guest-casting can ruin your episode. This played as more of a lost episode of Next Gen than Enterprise, especially since the characters didn't seem right. Maybe because the producers, who wrote the episode don't seem to have a good grasp on their own show. Star Trek will only re-emerge well if they get rid of Brannon and Braga and star over. I'll wait for Battlestar Galactica to come back this summer.

* My office building has the escalators leading from the habitrail into my building shut down, so everyone has to go up and down one as the other is being repaired. The only other way into the building from the parking garage is to cross the street from the other building. I know that for most people in cities in the north this doesn't sound like much of a problem, but here in the south, it just isn't done. The habitrail is there to keep you in air-conditioned comfort, and in safety over busy Richmond Ave. It's also a block away from the actual intersection, and they are working on the street, so the street is now full of water running off from the water main they broke. This has been going on all week. Sure, it's a minor inconvenience, but it's odd that the water main and the escalator maintenance problem happen at the same time.

* Also in the building, they have been "modernizing" the elevators for a year now. This means they close down one for eight weeks or more, and cause more congestion to the other four that go to our ninth floor. The modernizing seems to involve giving each one new buttons and removing the video screen. The cars also seem to go slower. I'm not sure why this is progress. Still, since I heard they haven't had a major overhaul since the building was opened in 1975.

* I just found out that at the opening ceremony for our building in 1975 was attended by Kirk Douglas, Andy Williams, Ed McMahon, Dyan Cannon, Debbie Reynolds, and Roger Miller. I'm not sure why these people would have wanted to come to an office building opening in 1975. Man, those 70's were really swinging.

* As predicted, having the review with my deficient worker was hell. Nothing about her performance is her fault, and when told that she doesn't take criticism well, she proceeded to tell me "I do too!" Then she proceeded to defend herself for 20 minutes on how well she takes criticism. Nice try. She also cried. I had to tell her that I'm sorry about her personal situation, and that it's causing her grief, but I have to evaluate her on her performance here, and not on her life elsewhere. Nothing personal. Then she was mad because I don't always ask her how she's doing. Hmm, maybe because it will cause you to break down again? I'd rather not. Sure, I do have compassion. I've let her go home and stay home more days than she has sick days, but I can't change how that affects performance and how that's placed on her review outcomes. Sheesh. Eventually you have to end up taking care of yourself. I can't be your counselor.

* I'm still wanting to see my sister in Baltimore next month, but unless there's a new miracle in airfare, it may not happen. I should have taken the low fare last month when I was strapped for cash. still, it was $80 less than I'm seeing now.

* Some idiot from Houston who's in the Southern Baptist Convention is asking his fellow Baptist to look at public schools for scary "homosexual acceptance". I guess I shouldn't expect much from the inner circle of hell there. i guess it goes along with the Florida Republican Chair who said, "I believe in family values", when he was correcting a story saying that he's been married five times, not six.

* i'm not sure why I'm so unhappy I can't see Smashmouth at the Taste of Addison! this weekend. Maybe since I've never seen them live. Not like they are great or anything, but I have a lot of their music.

* I need to by some Kraft Cheese or Oreos or something to support them as the American Family Association tries to get Kraft to drop their sponsorship of the 2006 Gay Games. I wonder if the AFA actually does anything for anyone, sponsoring something or doing something that actually forwards society. I'm going to guess not.

* The judge in Nebraska who struck down the Nebraska Anti-Same-Sex Marriage amendment was instantly labeled "activist" although he was just reading that the amendment limited rights to homosexual citizens according to the 14th amendment, an already passed law here in the US. Since the amendment went farther than just defining marriage, but eliminated just about all same-sex contracts and those living together in other arraignments (see common-law marriage). This is similar to the Ohio amendment, actually barring things "similar" to marriage, so it stops things like the ability to give medical instructions and visitation and entering into partnerships, no matter what orientation you are. Still Right-wingers see it only as an attack on their ability to ban same-sex relations. What's interesting is this will bring the whole filibuster debate up for a vote in the US Senate and may get more energy behind the FMA again. Yippee.

* Hooray, Lynn and Alex from the Amazing Race 7 are getting married in Ottawa. Houston's own Uchenna and Joyce will attend the wedding, thought they haven't heard from Rob and Amber who didn't invite them to their CBS wedding.

* Still hungry. Looks like it's a Whataburger night for me. I hear they use Kraft cheese and ketchup.
