Before I get to Jay's ([livejournal.com profile] jaybear) questions, here's a couple of things that have bugged me today, and make me ashamed to be from Texas-

1. Texas decides to be worse than Arkansas (really hard to do) and be bigger bigots, passing a bill to ban gays, lesbians and bisexuals from being foster parents. It was tacked onto a needed foster care bill by an idiot. period. I'm glad we'll let fools who decide to take kids in for cash for their smoking habit, but won't because a gay couple has extra cash, time and love. Who's to say what's really the unhealthy environment for a kid to grow up in.
2. Tom DeLay, a favorite of mine, just doesn't know when to shut the hell up. Maybe this is a good thing, since the more he talks, the dumber he looks. he was once again trying to push the line on 'activist judges' complaining about some old feeding tube and that a republican judge - Justice Kennedy of the Supreme Court didn't do his job by making the decision DeLay wanted. This isn't Burger King, Tom. DeLay also complained that the justice used something evil called the 'internet' to help his research when he made a recent decision. Remember boys and girls, if it isn't in the Bible, it doesn't exist.

I'm saddened that we are represented by people like this. Damnit, I vote and I still can't do anything about these people.

Oh well, on to the insightful questions from Jay:

1. Have you read "Its My Party, Too" by Christine Todd Whitman yet? What did you think?

No, I haven't, but I did see here on the Daily Show when she was promoting the book. She's truly someone I admire politically, and it's good that she wants to stay with the party and try to rally the moderates. Still, I find myself not being able to follow the same path, as I see who's at the top of the party, and how they are able to minimize the impact and strength of the members that don't go along with their agenda. The whole party has been hijacked and in my opinion would do better with an enema-style cleansing than anything else. as long as the leadership stays at the top (Rove, for example) change is going to be hard.

I'm not enamored of the Dems, either-but see them as a necessary evil since they are the only (semi) effective opposition out there. The great middle doesn't seem motivated enough to really take a stand and make it work, and unfortunately, I don't think Ms. Whitman is going to make it work right now, though I'm glad she's trying.

In glancing at the Amazon.com entry, I may have to order the book, though.

2. What is stopping you from starting a weight loss program?

Stubbornness. Not liking to change quickly. i just got on board with the whole water thing - but I don't know if that's doing much. Then there's the big one, I'm afraid that a diet will try to force me to eat things I don't like. Many of you know how obstinate I can be with food.

As for exercise, I really need someone to push me more into doing it. I can get myself to do it some, but I think having someone around to go with me to the gym would help a lot. It's much easier to watch TV when you are alone.

3. What is your favorite bad joke? The current administration doesn't count.

I rarely remember jokes. Stories and news yes, but not jokes, so I rarely tell a joke in the stand up sense. Most of my "jokes" are pop culture references and stupid news items - a la Daily Show rantings.

Here's a couple...the latest two Virgin Mary sightings, one in Australia is an imprint on dirty sheets, and the other is in Chicago under a roadway bridge. Hmm, sweat-stains and probably homeless pee. Faith I tells you.

4. How are your siblings doing with the whole gay thing? You don't mention their reactions much.

I only have one sister, and I told her some eight years ago, so now it's sort of a done deal. Really, it was never an issue with Laura. When I told her, it was an awkward afternoon where it took me 45 minutes to actually get the word "gay" out of my throat. Of course she already knew and she had talked to a couple of my friends about it (whom I had already told) and they had clued her in that i was going to tell her soon. Luckily she was patient with me.

She's been great, and really likes Chris too.

5. Having been out for a while now, do you think that you may be more monogamous than not?

This is something that Pete ([livejournal.com profile] trapezebear) and I have talked about before, and there's probably something to it. I'm certainly attracted to plenty of men, but I'm not always that interested in getting in everyone's pants. Personally I'd rather be with Chris, and share the moment with him than anything else.

I don't know...can I have it both ways? I guess I'm just not sleeping around all that much, but that won't rule out that I would, and would like to, but I'm more than happy to have Chris in my life.

Wee! Questions are fun!
