Here I am in a quiet house late on an American Thanksgiving night. Chris spent much of the day cooking, and he's got to go to work tomorrow, so he's been to bed for a bit now. I'm still up. Laura and Ed were over which was good as this may be the last Thanksgiving I spend with them for some time to come. Gregg (
left_turn_only) also came by, adding a lot to the conversation.
We had cajun spiced turkey, that we picked up early this morning. This one strange guy was fighting with the people at Popeye's about the turkey he was picking up, expecting it to be hot, even though it was already pre-cooked. It just needed to be re-heated. The counter guy did offer to heat it for the man, but the man decided against it, turning to us stating that he didn't order a Mexican turkey as an insult to the staff. What an ass. Chris nearly told him that since we were gay, we would have no problem stuffing that turkey for him. I almost wish he had.
We prepared the table for our guests, and got the kitchen ready for the cooking. We had green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, Rice-a-roni, rolls, artichoke dip, pecan pie, rolls, all sorts of stuff. Most of my help was running to the store to get last-minute necessities, since I'm not much of a cook. One does what one can. Everything came out really well, and we sat down to eat around 4 o'clock.
After dinner we watched Pieces of April, a Thanksgiving-themed movie that some of us had seen in the theater last year at this time. It was nice to share that movie with others.
Joey seemed to be confused by the extra people and excited by all of the food, and was hopping up and down all day. I know that she got some "Toast Points" I had to ask Chris what Toast Points where. He said they were gay-speak for toasted baguette slices. OK, very well. They went well with the artichoke dip (yes, I actually ate that - imagine that).
Dallas continues to be home more that Houston.
Tomorrow I guess I'll be going around with Laura, probably picking up Chris for lunch and definitely NOT shopping. Having worked retail for over ten years, I wouldn't step foot in a mall or store offering gifts (well, maybe a 7-Eleven) for anything. So since putting someone through the pain I went through back then!
