A few, short, not so well thought out notes before I head to bed...

1. First, it sucks what the california Supreme court did today. While I agree, that legally SF Mayor Newsome did go outside his jurisdiction, it still doesn't answer the true, underlying question: Are gay citizens allowed to get married in a civil ceremony, and cannot be denied the opportunity through equal protection under the law?

looks like the fight has just begun folks. Unfortunately, it will be difficult for those already holding marriage licenses to ever get any recognition of them, since they were told at the city clerk's office that they may, or may not be valid licenses.

It's not the point of the whole exercise, though. the fact is, mayor Newsome put the whole issue in front of the american public, even before Massachusetts could, giving a very visible face to the issue. Sure, there was Rosie O'Donnell grabbing some of the attention, but beyond that, there was hundreds, nee thousands of couples ready to put it on the line for both the cause, and their relationships. Hopefully that will stick with the public for a very long time. heck, by the time Marriages were legal in Boston, it was almost a non-issue.

For those who now find themselves without a license, it certainly doesn't stop you from having a relationship. If that ever happens, then we're all in trouble.

2. So the Governor of New Jersey is gay, and married, and now out of the closet. surprise, nothing new to see here. As the news jumped around the gay population of our office, very few of us were surprised by his situation, or even that he was outed by the scandal. I doubt that his wife was surprised, either. This is probably something that has just become a part of their relationship.

The thing that was making us mad is that politician, like Bill Clinton, can have trysts, scandals even, but as long as it's a heterosexual tryst, well it's not a big deal. Barney Frank is the only politician i've heard of who survived such an outing, politically.

Hey, America, wake up. People, especially politicians, are still having sex, in wilder ways that you thought of. Get over it.

3. Job hunting in Dallas is getting me down (and no Jason ([livejournal.com profile] t8r), I'm not so down that I need and Adavan or Zoloft or whatever). It's hard looking at all of the job listings and either seeing "Entry Level" or seeing a list of requirements that only a guy working at the company for 10 years now could write on his resume. Of course there's the entry level positions that have an outrageous number of requirements too. This is entry level? I guess in pay grade.

I look at interesting jobs in marketing and promotions and project management and try to figure out how my skills could propel me into a job like that. I'd lobe a change, but I'm thinking I'll have to stay in the customer service realm, unless i could afford to go back to school, and that still doesn't get me actual experience.

I keep looking, and i even get a nibble or two. Today i had a call from an employer, and they asked me some questions about an entry level job where I'd be a highly educated telemarketer, calling out about retirement products. I'd be asked to produce over 75 contacts a day. that's really nuts, and I know I wasn't into it, but I didn't want to bomb the interview, so I trudged on. The recruiter sad he didn't think it was a good fit because I don't do an insane amount of calls each day.

So I am not right for a telemarketer's job. I don't know to be flattered of disturbed. It seems that you must be experienced in this job, with the ability to call at dinnertime already ingrained.

Very discouraging. This with my apartment complex threatening to raise my rent by $200 if I don't sign a new lease (mine runs out around Thanksgiving). I guess I have a deadline, now. Somebody get me a job, stat!
