Bourne to Run
Jul. 21st, 2004 08:24 amI dumped the latest suitor for the fruits of my labors. Instead of driving all the way to Ft. Worth and back yesterday, I had called the HR person and said that the job, a lower paying, entry-level, odd hours call center job, wasn't really the right fit for me. She said "OK." After a pause, I continued, "I would like to work for (your company), but I don't think this is quite the package I need at this time." I was hoping that she might provide an option or a slightly higher pay level that might even out the difference. "OK," she replied. After a second she added, most people are promoted from within, and this is where they start.
Well, I'm a little beyond the starting block, and right now I'm not That desperate. I'll keep looking for now. Obviously they get plenty of potential candidates that losing me wasn't necessarily a problem. Chris made a good point, telling me that if I resented the job, I'd end up resenting the move and possibly the reason that brought me there.
Still, nothing like feeling that you aren't needed.
So the search continues. I guess I'll have to start drawing larger circles, since trying to keep my search narrow, looking for a similar job, has lead me to three failures so far. Still, I am getting some nods - I'm not being ignored. It's just a matter of time.
A couple of entertainment notes:
Went to see a sneak preview of The Bourne Supremacy last night with Hans. Good movie, not a great one. Matt Damon is once again amnesiac spy Jason Bourne, and again, he stays quiet. He does well in this role and continues to show that he's a better actor than Ben Affleck. He has to figure out who framed him, and why his old employers, the CIA are after him. The Deputy CIA director, played by Joan Allen, is a pretty flat role, but Allen does a good job with it. I love her. There's some good action sequences, including an good car chase that unfortunately is marred by an overacting camera that seems to just make you dizzy. The best car chase is still in Ronin with Robert DiNero. A good follow up to the last Bourne movie, but I'll say you could wait for the DVD.
Lastly. I love The Amazing Race. It's still the best reality series with the interesting locals, and the interaction between the teams. I keep thinking about the logistics of having to film all of these people in locals all over the world, and having to get the contestants and cameramen on all of the flights. This one has had a couple of interesting twists so far, but it's just getting going. I have to say that I hate Myrna and Charla. Charla takes advantage of her being a little person, but not in a good way, trying for faux sympathy to get ahead. Watching the other teams butt heads with them is funny. hopefully they will make the critical mistake that will send them packing.
