So I'm thinking more about writing. Writing a little more seriously. I'm actually taking notes and stuff. commentary and such. I want to write columns, Op/Ed type stuff. One of my problems is that over the last year I have dropped my "News Junkie" status.

What i think I can start commenting on...and will at least give me something to write about, is my views of the community, with sort-of a naive approach. I've been reading a lot of information and opinion lately that just gets me thinking...Some of my selected reading has included some thoughts on being Gay and not "Gay" by Alex ([livejournal.com profile] darke. Thoughts on the leather community by John ([livejournal.com profile] fauxbear). The debate on the use of "Woof!" by bears from Alan ([livejournal.com profile] redcub), and Matty's ([livejournal.com profile] mattycub) look at Andrew Sullivan's take on the bear community. (And yes, I read Cub4Blog's thoughts on the same article, and I think he's a little off in his opinion. The Sullivan article was not insulting, just naive, and whatever about the stuff about Daddies)

All of those people, and many more on LJ have been adding to my opinions and feelings. That's what I like about this forum, there's a great deal of different thoughts and opinions. There's some chance to debate issues, and still post about how much you live Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

Trust me, this is where the forum where I'm going to start this...If my writing starts getting up to speed, than I'll take these items and start to send them to other venues...perhaps the gay press first, I guess it just depends on what I get to writing. The important thing is to get writing. Start building a stable of stuff.

This still doesn't stop me from wanting to be a television creator (I want my own shows!), or a radio talk show host (Hi Larry!) i'd like to get involved in media...it doesn't matter so much where, but I need to take the steps, and the chances that will get me there. there is a local paper that takes freelance stories, I just need the time to produce them, and the ideas that they want to see in print. It's more difficult than you think.

Hans and I were emailing back and forth yesterday at work, and we were commenting on one of my professors in college who died recently, and how much I loved his opinion writing class. it was one of my favorite courses, and Mr. stanton really did like my work, it just needed tightening up, since i tend to ramble. He was one of the few professors who actually cared about what I did. It was more than just a grade. I appreciated that. He told me that people don't get a start writing opinion, though. you have to do your time with police beat and such. Ugh. I hated police beat in college. "A purse was stolen from the University center. Police took a statement from Ms. Leticia Monroe and are looking to recover the stolen item." Oh yeah, that's what I want to do.

I am a little concerned that most of my Op/Ed ideas right now are concerning the gay community. I guess I'm still in my discovery phase, so I'm trying to immerse myself in everything. trying to learn all about the community, the people, what makes people tick. Questions arise, "Why do we need contests?", "Why does a guy want to be an Empress?", "could you be the Queeniest thing in leather, ever?" these all cam e from candidates that were trying to woo the Bears at the Houston Area Bears meeting last night. there's things i don't understand, and I think that's a part of what I look at when writing...just like Mr. Sullivan and his look at Bears.

So you may see a little more serious writing from me. This is a place for me to explore and expand...at least it has been so far. I already know I have trouble writing fiction (Plots are difficult, emotions, atmospheres are not) so we'll try some non-fiction. i hope to produce one publishable piece a week right now. We'll see how it goes.

But now, I'm off to work in my regular, 9 to 5 job where everyone pretends to be productive...including me.
