Up For It

I have an interview today. I don't have a lot of time to go into it, but basically it's for a higher position at my current workplace. I'm going up against several others, and some stiff competition. Really, i have a good chance, but I'm still having to convince myself of that.

I'm also having to convince myself that I want it. I want it because of the money, and the title, but I really don't care to be essentially in the same place, with different employees...just down the cube farm from my guys. The challenges are still the same, which aren't all that challenging. What I'm shooting for is the paycheck. I'm not finding inspiration in that. I guess my values have changed since I was in my twenties.

I bought a new suit for this last night. It was at a rather ghetto shop, but no, it's not bright red with stripes. It is however grey, and kind of shiny...maybe a bit too shiny. I'm a little self-conscious about it now. Oh well.

Nerves are on high. Luckily this isn't an all day thing.

Deep breaths, bear! You'll be fine - for me, the worst part of stuff like this is the nervousness leading up to the actual event. Go in there and dazzle them with your wit and your new suit. Don't forget to breathe (which is how I get in nervous situations), and you'll be fine.

My philosphy on interviews is that employers hate to do them - they just want a good excuse to hire a qualified person. Strangely, most of us go into interviews trying to give reasons why we shouldn't be hired!

If you can get away from the nerves and work on helping the employer find the reasons why YOU need to be hired for this, I think you will do very well.

I know, They want to do that, but they do put a lot of barriers in place these days. No one wants to take a chance anymore.

You're right, we should learn to go out on more limbs. Someone just might grab us.
